Post news RSS Alive & Kicking - Article #1

We talk about the mod being on Greenlight and certain design choices we've made.

Posted by on

Alive & Kicking is now officially on Steam Greenlight! And at the time of writing this article, we're actually #1 of 1,515 games in Greenlight - all thanks to your support. Hopefully it can maintain its position and earn a place on Steam in the next round of games. If you haven't yet seen Alive & Kicking on Greenlight, click here.

Meanwhile, the mod itself continues to take shape. In the last large batch of screenshots, we showed how we reworked our lighting and cleaned up the tests. The decision to do this mostly came from urging from the community, but also because we felt like the previous visual theme was inconsistent and made the mod feel sloppy. After posting those screenshots, we actually made entirely new textures for the maps, combining the design of Portal 2's textures with the grungy characteristic concrete from the first Portal.

Thanks for your support so far - with your help, we can get A&K onto everybody's favorite distribution platform. Expect even more media updates if and/or when we finally make the cut!

In Portal 2 there was only one chamber in 100% clean style, and it had its own flair.

This entire (main) mod uses the clean theme, something I am looking forward to!

(PeTI maps feel to blocky/editor'd somehow)

I know this is unrelated but will you be using a Portal 1 style GLaDOS or a Portal 2 one.

We're making use of everything that was retconned from Portal 1 to Portal 2- panels, tiles, etc.

So to answer your question: Yes. GLaDOS' appearance was retconned from Portal 1 to 2 so we'll be keeping her up-to-date as well.

For some people who don't understand: GLaDOS from Portal 2 will be used. Oh well - Everything from portal 2 will be used to remake portal 1 maps. As I think

I don't want to ask for a release date. So instead can I ask what is left to be done before this is ready for release?

I'll just say it most likely won't release in 2014.

You know what would be really freaking awesome. Is if you could make it so that when you completed the original game after the credits you somehow made it flow into portal 2 so that it could be played like one big game. That would be really great.

Still Alive and Kicking. Technically still on schedule to release. We don't have a public release date.

Quick question, I know that Dot Operator programmed an adaptive music system for the game, but will you guys be using Wauterboi's soundtrack at all? It's really impressive, and worth listening to on it's own (which is really something), but so is the one Dot Operator demonstrated here: Youtube.com. Whichever one you end up using, the game will be awesome no matter what. I was just curious...
