It's been over six long months of dedicated, at times daunting, and ultimately triumphant work... And COR Entertainment at last announces the release of Alien Arena 2009! You've seen the screenshots, the videos, now it is time to face the alien invasion head on, armed to the hilt with disruptors, beamguns, and vaporizors.
The amount of improvements to the game engine are staggering. The game comes alive with the full implementation of GLSL per-pixel lighting on all surfaces, OpenAL audio system, and new gameplay features. Optimization was as always, another aspect that we've addressed. No longer does one have to be leary of cranking the settings up, the game plays remarkably faster with the switch to GLSL for per-pixel operations. Alien Arena has transformed into a lean, clean, fragging machine, with stunning visual effects that are usually reserved for commercial titles. This isn't your daddy's Alien Arena - it's not even last year's model, with a host of new and improved maps, sounds and music.
Some of the new features in this release:
- GLSL per-pixel lighting on all surfaces.
- OpenAL 1.1
- Ogg-Vorbis support.
- GLSL post process framebuffer effects.
- New scoreboards.
- New HUD.
- Stereo music files.
- Seven new maps and two new player characters.
- Light volumes.
- Voice taunt system.
- Doppler sound effects.

Amazing, downloading as we speak.
excellence in a biscuit!
Never played this before but looks really cool now so will download see what it's like. Great work.
Downloading, going to give this a shot.
Downloading, this looks great :)
pretty good but needs a more user friendly boot menu and better resolution settings other than that nice!
You can set any resolution you want, just advance the preset settings up till it hits "custom", and then set anything you want in the fields below :)
Is there a package which contains both the windows and linux bins .I dont fancy downloading twice im on dial-up ( yes dial-up still exists )
thanks
You could use SVN, and then compile the linux binaries from the sources.
The url is Svn.icculus.org
Note, though, that icculus is currently down, due to the game getting slashdotted today.
Yey ! Dl it now too, thx for the new maps and chars ! Only thing thats missing is a physics engine addon... There are many free physics engines out there too, why not trying to integrate one of them for ragdoll physics and so on ?
Work has started on two big items for the next couple of releases - one is a skeletal model format so that we can implement ragdoll physics, and the other is shadow mapping using GLSL. Both should be really signifigant improvements.
Quake 2.5 engine? lol.
Nice game, I've play Alien Arena 2008, I don't play it anymore, but i'm downloading this one.
I played AA2k8 once and I wasn't too sure about it. But I saw the trailer for this and I gotta try this!
