Simply wow! It'd suck if a Klingon photon hit the bottom-aft section. Or maybe even the forward-mid section on the underbelly right at the end of the gray colouring. That looks like a weak spot xD
I think it's just that factions style, e.g. Borg ships are symmetrical, easily recognisable 3D shapes that we all recognise from Maths classes when we were very young.

beautiful, instantly recognisable as Romulan, especially with teh empty midsection (a result of using a quantum singularity as a powersource correct?)
