Hello, ladies and gentlemen of ModDB.
After a brief hiatus due to real life, work has resumed on the Zombie Swarm project. Since I haven't posted here in such a long time, I felt it was neccessary to make an update to let you know that the mod is still far from dead.
At the moment, I am currently working on compiling the models that have been completed so far in an attempt to get them working in the Alien Swarm engine. If I can get these few models to work, then I can get any number of models to work, and that will open the floodgates for the rest of my part in this project to run through.
However, another reason for making this post is that I haven't heard of any progress from our programmer for some time. I've dropped a few hints, but I don't think he's actually interested in pursuing this project much further, and I don't want to force the issue since I would rather have volunteers than conscripts. I, however, would very much like to see this project reach completion.
I feel that I could complete this project with no alterations to the Alien Swarm code. Simply replacing the alien drone model with "running" zombies would probably be enough, and this is something that I confidently feel is within my abilities. However, "running" or "fast" zombies were something that I was quite keen to avoid, to stop the game from feeling like "Top-down Left 4 Dead."
So, if anyone with some programming (and hopefully some modding) experience is interested in getting involved with the project, then I would very much like to hear from you as programming is pretty much the only missing link that I can see.
I would also like to hear from anyone who has had experience in modding AS before now. I feel that having some people I can talk to on a consultancy basis would be very helpful and stop a lot of the "fumbling around in the dark" that I feel as if I'm doing right now. It would also help the mod to be finished a bit sooner.
Partly due to a lack of interest from the community, this mod has been indefinitely mothballed until I can find someone willing to help with the coding side of the mod.
In the interim, I am working as one of the 3D artists on the "Slender: Source" mod, and will continue to do so until I outlive my usefulness to Ethereal Entertainment's team.
Some of you may recognise my work on their page, as I also operate under the pseudonym of Ynek on various other websites.
Anyway, the main reason that I'm stopping by today was to share the fact that this mod is unlikely to see a release any time soon, but I have kept all of my files that I have generated thus far, and will come back to them at a later date when my modding expertise and experience have had time to mature whilst working with more experienced individuals.
This is not technically mod-death, but is really more like mod stasis, or possibly mod coma.
During my work with the Slender: Source (Now renamed 'faceless') mod, I have learned a thousand times more about working with the source engine than I ever could have learned on my own.
The team have been very supportive and friendly in my coming to grasp with the new skills that I am beginning to acquire, and I've been working as hard as I can to ensure that the content that I produce is of high a quality as possible.
When I am done with Faceless, the odds are that I will stick around with this development group for a while in order to learn more about working with Source. That is, of course, if they need or want my help with future projects.
In future, though, I fully intend to return to, and finish, Zombie Swarm.
