1UP.com have an interesting mod article up entitled Mod Summit which involves quite a few big players in the game scene ranging from the pros, to the success stories, to the up and comers. It is a decent read for everyone in the mod scene, as it provides a good view on what modding means to various people / companies. Here is the intro:
From auspicious up-and-comers, to one-time mod authors who've already made big breaks, to major developers without whose sanction and support mod communities could not exist, we've assembled the voices of those involved at every level to sound off on the state of the art.
Intresting :)
This article is also in the present issue (#260) of Computer Gaming World.
Kind of odd to see myself in the very first gaming magazine I ever bought :D
I love how Joe Halper and Robert Crouch have the same exact face/head/shirt
I think its a great article - but I'm biased of course :)
It was good to see peoples opinion / take on the mod scene from all levels though I found they all reiterated one point been:
Mods can do (AND SHOULD DO) what game companies cannot and that is be adventurous, creative and take risks because you have no financial goals / investors demanding results.
Great article all the same, its good to know 'who' the players and their thoughts.
"I love how Joe Halper and Robert Crouch have the same exact face/head/shirt"
Amazing what you find when you google you own name.
I didn't realize they used my pic for some other dude until people started emailing me and calling me Robert. :)
