A short abstract Source Engine based experience.
I've played many source mods, and every once in awhile, I will find one that takes me by total surprise; turning my expectations on their head and creating something I'd never thought I'd see.
This is one of those mods.
Yathrib will take everything you think you know about source mods, and smash all to bits with a hammer!
Here's a mod that DARES to step away from the standard formula of most mods. There's no combat, instead the gameplay revolves around solving trippy puzzles in an abstract environment.
The levels are BEAUTIFUL! The sound design is top notch, and the puzzles are actually solvable without being too obvious (many fall into making puzzles too simple or too difficult, this one hits that sweet spot in between).
It's short, interesting, and the creator clearly took his time to make sure everything worked well and looked nice before releasing it to the public.

You know what was first appealing about this mod for me? It was something actually different. I always see the same old Half-Life 2 shooter mods.
I saw this and it seemed actually different from everything else of recent.
It's short, but it's polished and it plays nice. As the author says it is an abstract mod, it's a little trippy and has some simple puzzles and weird, nice aesthetic and then it ends.
I thought it was cool, it looks really nice too, and it experiments with some neat concepts. Overall it's pretty solid and I don't see anything wrong with it. But in my opinion I would've liked to see this longer. It's about as long as a demo.
I'd like to see where this goes in the future and what the creator will make. This is a neat little mod.
Looks great and sounds even better. Nice to see that stuff like this gets the praise it deserves.
