After many years, it is time to finally give The Fun Box the proper burial it deserves.

It's hard to say goodbye

Hard enough that it took me all these years to come to terms with it myself - but nothing can last forever, and I can't keep pulling my poor old mod's corpse out of the closet like a puppet to show off every few months. As much as it hurts to say out loud, Wolfcl0ck's Fun Box died many years ago. It's time to honor this creation of my own creative mind with a proper burial.

So what killed Wolfcl0ck's Fun Box?

Well, truth be told, it was a Windows update. See, way back in 2018 or 2019, an automatic Windows update completely bricked my operating system. I'm talking "not boot-able" bricking. Thankfully I still have my install disc, like any smart person would, and I reinstalled the OS. Good as new! At least, that's how it should have been.

No, in reality, there were some internal things just different enough about my new installation that my files had a hard time adjusting. Most things were working, but one thing that I could never fix was the code compiling for Fun Box. See, every compile done after the re installation had the same problem never present beforehand: Every time I'd come upon an area with a lot of entities, the console would flood with "WARNING! User command buffer overflow(# #), last cmd was # bits long" and I would freeze in place. No matter how far and wide I searched I could never find a solution to the issue, and with how messy my codebase was to begin with, I never found the time or ability to start fresh with a new codebase.

Now I'm out of time. Fun Box was one of the things I was most proud of growing up, but no one can be a child playing with game making tools forever, and unfortunately, my time to be a kid playing with toys is long over. I only have around one more year left to finish my Master's degree before I'm out of things to prolong the inevitable waltz into real adult life, and unfortunately, Fun Box cannot come back in that short time.

What happens to the assets?

I'll upload Fun Box's assets as-is in a while. I need some time still, for more reasons than one (I'm on vacation while writing this, for example.) Perhaps one day, we'll be able to see this universe of my creation in action. Perhaps we'll be able to see the ultimate confrontation between those two deities of the Fun Box and their newfound companion/rival from the FBI. However, until that day comes...

Farewell, Wolfcl0ck's Fun Box. It sure was a hell of a ride.
