Hey guys, My name is Ethan Miller and I’m the current head of the Vostroyan Firstborn Modification for the game Dawn of war: Dark Crusade. This is a full race modification that will hopefully upon completion allow the player to control the Vostroyans as an individual faction. We’ve made TONS of progress so far, and if you want to see it all of it you’ll have to check the forums. We’ve finished about 65 percent of getting base modeling down texturing and animating: Not so much. If anyone wants to assist us with our project we would be glad to have you. Anything from mappers to coders to texturers would be appreciated. Anyway enjoy the screenshots!

Post news Report RSS Vostroyan Mod Team Member Interview

Hello there ModDB Community. This here is a so-far exclusive interview of some of the members of the Vostroyan Mod. 5 Team Members were interviewed by myself, and they were (in no particular order) Deathreapa11, GeorgeRox26, Cadian Guard, Death Korps of War, Murph, and last but not least ZombieDragon201. Let’s get to the interviews, as I’m sure your wondering what makes these fellows tick.

Deathreapa11:

Me: Username/first name(if you want):

Deathreapa: Deathreapa11/Ethan

Me: What made you interested in Vostroyans, be it the mod, or TT?

Deathreapa: Well when I first saw the Vostroyans I was browsing the cities of death campaign on the 40k website. I had just really started to get into imperial guard, I used to play Space marines. Well when I first saw them they instantly captured my attention, the whole Russian Cossack feel was VERY cool to me, and once I had read more about their back story they were my favorite IG regiment. They’re basically the space marines of the guard, highly trained, well equipped, excellent morale, great CC capabilities, and a rich back story.

Me: What’s the hardest aspect of your part of modding?

Deathreapa: Hm… well I would have say dealing with team members just going AWOL .Its EXTREMELY annoying, as well as rude. Take for example our first modeler, Yellow Dart. He was well into finishing our first model of the basic Vostroyan, when all of a sudden he disappears. Its been 3 months since we last heard from him. I can understand if you have to stop due to real life, but at the very least TELL US!!! And even if you do send us your work, all that time wasted…We’ve also had several coders disappear on us, and its been…frustrating. One in particular gave us a half finished alpha that was just pathetic, went on vacation and NEVER CAME BACK! Tis been frustrating….

Me: When you aren’t modding, what do you do for fun?

Deathreapa: Well when I’m not playing X-box live (Gamertag: Deathreapa11, for anybody who wants to play COD 4 I’m always up for a match!) You can normally catch me grabbing a bite at the local pizza joint, watching stand up comedy, hanging at the local hobby shop, hanging with my fellow Jewish gangstas, or reading. I tend to enjoy things that don’t require much movement.

Me: How do you manage working with the Vostroyan, Futile, Lost and the Damned, and now Last Chancers Mods?

Deathreapa: Its been interesting. A problem that I’ve always noticed among mods is that there is a lack of interactivity. Most mods leave each other alone and do their own thing. What I hope to do with the modding community is try to create a lot more of a united front, mod teams sharing resources, working together to accomplish their goals, all that fun stuff. Its been an interesting experience. This is really my first modding position, and I have to say its worked out quite well so far. It really has been a pleasure working with the Futile team, their a reasonable bunch and have made great strides with their mod so far. The lost and the damned team, no matter how small, has also been a pleasure to work with. Since Fend left the mod has pretty much been integrated into our community, so when release time comes rolling around be prepared to see Vostroyans and Daemons doing battle amongst the stars. As for the last chancers, it has yet to see if they’ll make it off the ground. Problems such as leadership issues, lack of staff, and general incompetence have yet to rear their ugly head, but who knows what tomorrow will bring. All we can do is continue to assist them in whatever way possible.

Me: Anything else you wanna add? Shout-out, last remarks, etc.

Deathreapa: Well so far I would have to say great job to the team! We’ve established a place among the big dogs, lets hope we can continue the great work! And yellow dart, if you’re reading this then get your ass back over to the forums! We need your models! And I would like to give a shoutout to the community. We’re doing this for you guys, and without you it wouldn’t be possible! SO GET YOUR ASS’S OVER TO THE FORUMS AND POST DAMNIT! Cheers!

GeorgeRox26:

Me: Username/first name(if you want):

George: GeorgeRox26/George

Me: What made you interested in Vostroyans, be it the mod, or TT?

George: well I’d only just started to map and found I enjoyed it, then I noticed that the Firstborn Mod was just starting up and thought ‘hey why not‘, it’ll give me something to do over the summer, also I think the Vostroyans are pretty cool

Me: What’s the hardest aspect of your part of modding?

George: urrrrrrrr well its kind of trying to be creative, you know like not making maps that are really similar to everyone else’s, also if working on something for along time, I start to get bored of it so i have to try to keep things fresh

wow this is sounding corny

Me: When you aren’t modding, what do you do for fun?

George: urrrrr computer games, music, friends...... occasionally I ski

Me: How do you manage working with the Vostroyan, Futile, Lost and the Damned, and now Last Chancers Mods?

George: We’re working with the last chancers??? News to me. I don’t think there is anything to really cope with, its not really any different from one mod, I suppose its good really, it means I can easily check up on several mods

Me: Anything else you wanna add? Shout-out, last remarks, etc.

George: I wanna shout out to all my homies in lfm reppin it up…

LOL jokes

well I wish all the other mods luck.

Cadian Guard

Me: Username/first name(if you want):

Andrew: Cadian Guard/Andrew

Me: What made you interested in Vostroyans, be it the mod, or TT?

Andrew: Definately the TT minitures are what made me a fan of the
Vostroyans. Just the fact there was another doctrine was more than enough to make me a fan as well. You get tired of seeing the repetative use of Cadiansin the IG TT miniture range.

Me: What’s the hardest aspect of your part of modding?

Andrew: Hardest aspect? hmmmm...maybe the lack of drawing equipment (I'm really pickey with what I use). Also trying to nail down the concept correctly and having it meet my expectations is hard to. If my drawing is not what I envisioned, I tend to toss it immediately. Also trying to make the modding team happy with good concept makes things a wee but difficult.

Me: When you aren’t modding, what do you do for fun?

Andrew: Playing video games, trying to get independant comic stuff done, looking for a job. Nothing special.

Me: How do you manage working with the Vostroyan, Futile, Lost and the Damned, and now Last Chancers Mods?

Andrew: I manage myself really well with the mods. I make sure I work diligently and organize what I finish. Everyone on the forum are respectful of things so I dont have confrontations with any of them. All is cool.

Me: Anything else you wanna add? Shout-out, last remarks, etc.

Andrew: BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE VOSTROYAN COMIC! The first page is done and I'm looking forward to comments and helpfull suggestions. Also stay tuned for mod updates!

Death Korps of War:

Me: Username/first name(if you want):

DKoW: Death Korps of War/Joseph

Me: What made you interested in Vostroyans, be it the mod, or TT?
DKoW: Table Top-- Just general love for the Imperial Guard.
Mod-- Was just looking to join a mod and utilize my skills in Drawing, mostly due to boredom. This then went on to me downloading Google Sketch-Up and i started modeling stuff in that. Then i recieved 3DS Max and the rest is history.

Me: What’s the hardest aspect of your part of modding?
DKoW: 1: Finding time and enthusiasm to do anything. I go to school and work, so finding time is hard.
2: There are many parts to my job; 1) there is the modelling side of things. This is by far the most enjoyable part of modding. 2) There is the Animating of these models. This is not a very hard thing to do but it is very time consuming and does get very boring after 20 minutes (depending on what your animating. Tanks are easier, but humanoids are a pain) But i mostly model and don’t bother myself with this side of modding for the reason stated above. 3) Texturing is, bar none, the most time consuming and most annoying part of model making. I am not even going to bother going into detail on this part because of this fact.

Me: When you aren’t modding, what do you do for fun?
DKoW: I play in a Heavy Metal band believe it or not. I like to write music, and occasionally play the old Xbox or Playstation, or the Computer depending if there is a good mod out for either Dawn of War or Rome Total War

Me: How do you manage working with the Vostroyan, Futile, Lost and the Damned, and now Last Chancers Mods?
DKoW: I don’t. I work primarily on the Vostroyan Mod when I can. I still officially work on the LatD mod but due to time and other constraints, I seem to have stopped working on it, but I try to do something. And I am not a member of the other mods.

Me: Anything else you wanna add? Shout-out, last remarks, ect.
DKoW: Not much, just that I hope people enjoy the mod when it comes out, and hope its as good, and receives the same welcome as the Steel Legion Mod

Murph:

Me: Username/first name(if you want):

Murph: murph/Kyle

Me: What made you interested in Vostroyans, be it the mod, or TT?

Murph: The chance to gain experience in modelling/animation, as well as my love of the Warhammer 40k universe. I was a fan of the Dawn of War first, then found out about the Tyrannid mod, then someone on those boards pointed me towards the Vostroyan mod.

Me: Whats the hardest aspect of your part of modding?

Murph: I'm a noob - never worked on in-game models before; so I'm hoping it will be a big learning experience for me.

Me: When you aren’t modding, what do you do for fun?

Murph: Art, the gym, movies, beer's lots of fun too.

Me: How do you manage working with the Vostroyan, Futile, Lost and the Damned, and now Last Chancers Mods?

Murph: I'm only working on the Vostroyan mod.

Me: Anything else you wanna add? Shout-out, last remarks, etc.

Murph: Hmmmmm.... nope.

-----------------------------------------------------

ZombieDragon201:

Me: Username/first name(if you want):
Zombie: Zombiedragon201

Me: What made you interested in Vostroyans, be it the mod, or TT?
Zombie: The cossack theme with them, plus the various oppertunities for improvement really attracted me to the IG branch. After I read the book, though, I was pretty much hooked.

Me: Whats the hardest aspect of your part of modding?
Zombie: Well, it has to be managing the learning. My aspect is quite a bit, and at the moment the hardest part would be modelling.

Me: When you aren’t modding, what do you do for fun?
Zombie: Fun? What's that? In truth, I spend my time with either school, modding, working on another Game dev. team, and swimming and diving.

Me: How do you manage working with the Vostroyan, Futile, Lost and the Damned, and now Last Chancers Mods?
Zombie: It's interesting, and it keeps things exiting at our blowouts. God, they just keep getting bigger. But I love doing it for all of these different factions, it allows my mind to run wild when working on concepts.

Me: Anything else you wanna add? Shout-out, last remarks, ect.
Zombie: Well, I'd like to say I enjoy very much working for this team, in every aspect. It'd be nice if we had a larger community, but hey, there are only so many people, right? Anyways, I'd like to thank the public for taking an interest in our mod, and I have high hopes for our future.
