UT40K: The Chosen Although 40K players and other Mod Teams may not have herd about us, we have in fact been going on, for quite a while. The fact that a ModDB page was never set up for us has only just been brought to light. We are a small but dedicated team, devoted to bringing the universe of Games Workshops Warhammer 40,000 to it's full glory, using the UT3 engine. While we have been toiling in the shadows, we have actually managed to release a Number of Public Betas over the last year and improve on them with each upgrade. We are devoted to remaining as close to the publish code rules as we possibly can, to the point where we have implemented both the JAM system, for the Terminator Assault Cannon, and a fully functional vehicle damage system, complete with Front, Side and Rear armour values and features all of the ways of disabling a vehicle (e.g. Crew Stunned, Weapon Destroyed, Immobilised and all the others) We have two mostly functional races available; The Imperium's...

Geodav mentioned that I should write a mutator involving the use of turrets. Do you guys have a gameplay documentation set up? Or is the game being spaghetti coded? I refer to gameplay documentation as:

1) Full Set of Mechanics
2) Control Scheme
3) Story (If any)
4) Gameplay Mood
5) The list goes on.

As a programmer, I know for a fact that I can work on creating much, much cleaner code if I know exactly what the game is to turn out to be like.

PS. If your going to keep recruiting people, Geodav should make some kind of "Start here" post, with all the questions a new member to the mod team could possibly ask. I find that getting into this group is quite confusing. So far I have no idea what the exact goal is, nothing labeled as official information, etc.

Lol well it was only me and geodav until you and Potteh showed up. So that made; biggest, geo, twin, potteh. Then freeranged showed up, and now im PM'ing another modeling who is going to start work for us.

So as you can see, we never really had much need for a recruitment forum, but im sure geo will get round to it now that its been brought up.

As for the documentation, geo will also have to get back to you on that one.

yet again hard to discribe unless you accatuly play Warhammer 40,000 as a table top game.

basic gameplay is the warfare game type, replace ut3 content with stuff from the W40k universe
extra gameplay are deathmatch+teamdeathmatch+Dual match

mechanics !!!!

Factions = Chapter or Craftworld or Legion or Sept or Clan ......
families = troop types = HQ or Elite or Troops or Assault or Support
sub families = Troops = Tactail Squad or Scout Squad ( different races may have more choices)
each troop type (squad) has a limited selection of weapons (default to start with)

we also use a mutator to replace all the weapons/turrets (on faction bases) in the UT3 maps till we get some really good maps
the main goal of the mod is to play W40k as a FPS game, shoot all the weapons and drive all the vehicle and play as a character

things have a bit lax here in the last few months but i'll try to fix things for you

I actually have played some rather small scale tabletop Warhammer 40k matches.

The starter kit alone was ridiculously fun...but I bought a squad of both Genestealers and Space Marines afterward and noticed that it was getting way too costly to buy more.

But my recommendation would be to work on building Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines only until we get some more complete, stable releases finished. The Chaos Space marine model is perfect, and if the team can make a Space Marine model as good as that one, then we can release new factions as patches/updates. With this said, I'll be sure to keep the code dynamic.

From what I understand, the game is suppose to be in 3rd person perspective? Gears of War style cam? If so, that's great, because I'm working on that as we speak, and have almost completed it. If this has already been implemented by the past programmer, then that's just a little more experience in my satchel.

A documentation is kind of a big deal though...let me know as soon as you figure something out about it.

I dont know if we are going for 1st or 3rd person, the ut2004 version was first person wasn't it geodav? Maybe we could have an option in the menus to switch between first and third person? I rekon thatd be kool.

i've been collecting/playing for over 17 years, yes thats a lot of money to spend (not much now) but it is fun to play

thats the way we started last time just SM + CSM and added the other races in afterwards. now which chaos marine do you mean !!! please beware in the mod atm we have our old content SM + CSM and new ones from iWaNN which are very good but just not exact

acttually the mod is a FPS but you all ways have the option to use the consol command behindview. if you have a working 3rd person camera can you make it orbit the player as the current UT3 one doesn't. i'll try to do a short design doc this weekend

Well if you do a short design documentation, please make as generic as possible! I want to foresee the objective, and then we can all discuss the specifics from there if that sounds better.

If were cloning the original UT2004 mod, then I guess you have it all figured out already.

I hope so. I think this will allow us to get to a complete game much faster, especially when it comes to creating a nice variety of models for each race instead of rushing out for, it seems, 13 factions.

Having all 13 factions in one game sounds epic...
