UT Space Battle is a game mod for UT3 and UT2004 which comprises a space combat simulation which aims primarily to explore innovative game play through the use of unconventional aspects that distinguish it from existing shooters and strategy games. Gamplay for both UT2004 and UT3 is the same, with only graphical differences. The mod is still in alpha stage and currently does not have much in the way of polish or documentation. However, it is functional and may be of interest to those wishing to follow the progress of the mod. Because it is in alpha stage there may be bugs cropping up in each new release and game balance may shift from release to release. See also the UT2004 page for UT2004 specific media.

A new snapshot has been uploaded of the current state of development. Some bugs have been fixed, difficulty levels implemented, AI improved, and some graphical improvements. Also added is the ability to select which fleet you would like to use, rather than being forced to use a random fleet.

A new version is now available for download. If you have difficulty getting any of the files from here they are also hosted on the Sourceforge site at Sourceforge.net.

Difficulty levels have been implemented. At this time there is only a limited range of difficulty with the harder difficulties being somewhat harder than the default before, and the easier difficulty levels being progressively easier.

The AI has been improved as well. Previously it was hogging performance a little bit and that should be smoothed out a lot more. AI targetting has been improved and this has reduced the typical lifespan of carriers as they draw a lot more fire now.

One issue that some may have noticed, was that sometimes all enemy contacts would disappear - the cause of this was having all your fleet's sensor equipment destroyed. But there was no HUD indication or otherwise to let you know that was what had happened. Some changes have been made to the sensor simulation and it no longer has this behaviour. In Dogfight you will always be able to see all ships, and in Carrier Battle you will be able to see an enemy ship as long as it is within a certain distance of a friendly ship. Sometimes you may have to "scout" a little bit to find an enemy early in a Carrier Battle match. If you can keep enemy ships far enough away from your carrier it will be protected from any enemy fire since they will not be able to detect it. (though in the heat of battle, it can be difficult to stay out of sensor range)

There has been some graphical improvements, primarily to the UT3 version. The UT2004 version is still a little more robust in that regard but the UT3 version is catching up.

Also added is the ability to select which fleet you would like to use, rather than being forced to use a random fleet. In UT2004 you can now set your own keybinds. In UT3 the capability to set your own keybinds has not yet been added but hopefully, that will be available soon.
