Having some issues with YouTube removing my content and striking me, even though everything in this video is 100% legal and in no way promotes piracy. Anyhow, I am going to post the links that were in the YT video description below:

---===IMPORTANT LINKS AND STEPS===---
You will need either WinRar or Winzip/7zip to open the zipped/compressed files. I use WinRAR: Win-rar.com

-=STEP 1: Image Mounting Software=-
LINK 1: VCD Download - Elby.ch
-Click the green "Download" button in the middle
-Only need this if you don't already have a separate image mounting software (daemon, alcohol 120, poweriso, etc)

-=STEP 2: Game Files and Patches=-
LINK 2: The Thing PC files - Myabandonware.com
-Scroll down near the bottom to find the file downloads section
-Download the ISO Version (2nd option, 229 MB)
-Download "NOCD" crack (2 MB)
-Download "PATCH" (patch 1.1-1.2 Euro 3 MB)
-Optional game guide (12 MB)
-Optional fixes if needed

-=STEP 3: HD Overhaul Mod=-
LINK 3: The Thing HD Mod - Moddb.com
-Download all three available options here (The Thing HD, The Thing HD Modded Exe, and The Thing HD New Menu Background)
*I apologize if any of the above links do not work, maybe try to use the way back machine (https://archive.org/web/) to access them at an earlier date when they did work, I do not know of any other locations for these files*

Thank you! I am glad that the video at least can exist here even if it's not in it's original 1080p. YouTube denied my request to repeal the strike and the video removal. I really don't understand, myabandonware is an actual vendor that has games for sale, they certainly know which games are legally free. And mod DB has been seen in many YT videos, so I really don't get what is causing the removal and they won't tell me.

I am happy that at least one person in the world might get some use out of it though and my efforts weren't completely in vain. Cheers!

I did everything, but everytime i open it up, it shows black screen, and then closes, any help please? I also tried running registry files, and still same issue.

Hey there, sorry about the late reply, I guess I didn't have notifications turned on. Off the top of my head I unfortunately am not sure what the issue is or even where to start, I never ran into this when I was making the video. Have you tried again since you posted this or figure anything else out?

Just curious, did you test the game prior to installing the HD mod just with the base game files like I did in the video around 7 or 7:30 minutes? Did it work okay without the mod? If so, maybe the MOD creator can provide some more information.

If you are getting a black screen even with just the base game before trying the MOD, I'm not really sure what could be up, it might help narrow the problem down though.

You could also try some simple fixes like making sure you are running as admin and also you could try to run it in compatibility mode for Windows XP or something (I never had to do this but worth a shot). And you said you have tried the fixes on the myabandonware site? I didn't have to use them but I've heard these have helped others.

check pcgw and look at the 'issues fixed' section for the thing, that might be what you need to fix this

Description

This is a detailed, step by step, tutorial video walking you through the process of acquiring and installing the now free PC Game: The Thing (2002) and also adding an optional HD overhaul mod. I include links to all websites and files that you see in the video which are located just below this text. In honor of the 40th Anniversary of John Carpenter's famous 1982 remake of The Thing, I figured I would go ahead and share the word that the PC Game is now free as abandonware. I noticed some people having issues getting it downloaded and installed correctly so I wanted to create a guide explaining how to get it all set up. It's a great time to check out this game because there is a brand new HD overhaul mod for it that was just released recently by Draconus Dev Studios that I also explain how to set up. I apologize for the jump cuts but it took me much longer to create this than I originally thought it would, I did my best to make it seem like one take though. If you are tech savvy you probably can just follow the links and info in this description and avoid the slow nature of my explanations. Links and timestamps in YouTube Description
