Road to Limansk is a mod for Clear Sky aimed at improving all aspects of game play.
SO I've hit kind of a brick wall here. I can't decide what scope to use and its make or break time.
First we have the 1PN58, a first generation Soviet night optic.
Second we have the 1PN93-4, a second generation Soviet night optic.
For gaming purposes they will preform the same so it just comes down to looks. On one hand we have the giant night scope from the 70s. On the other we have the much more modern and smaller scope from the 90s.
The 1PN58 was modeled and skinned by Heffy. The 1PN93 was modeled by SAM61 and I'm skinning it now....note its a Work In Progress.
So what do you Stalkers want to see? Its one or the other and I have to start modeling these things in the next few days.
I'd go with the 1PN93-4 just because its a lot more ergonomic and won't take up as much screen real estate on top of the gun as the 1970's one will.
Why not both?
Indeed. Can't you make them perform differently? 'Cause if you can, you could make the 1PN93-4 a more late-game attachment/scope.
1PN58 seems like it would be much more common in the zone.
This, if you're only going with one. I'd prefer both, however, if you can make different NV overlays for each scope (1PN93-4 being clearer/better). Plus the weight difference might be a factor (2 kg/4.4 lbs vs 1.5 kg/3.1 lbs).
I'll have to look into doing both. No guarantees.
It really comes down to time, each scope means a separate model that has to be compiled. So do have three separate scopes there needs to be 4 models. Theres no bulk export/import either so each one has to be done individually.
The crashes thanks to piece of **** plugins and the hideous SDK just compounds the issue and adds even more time.
Sucks how the SDK is "dangerous", but I'm sure the work done will be worth it.
i would like to see them on a gun if i can
My vote goes for that 1PN58, man. That is, of course unless you feel that the 1PN93-4 will be easier to implement in the long run.
It would be useful to see a few images of how it looks on the rifles themselves, both externally and in 1st person.
The older one looks in character for the Zone, but i think it might not look that good in 1st person.
I prefer both ,at start of the game you will have access to 1PN58 ,and when you will get higher to factions like duty you will have access to 1PN93-4 beacause they have more sources (like helicopters) then stalkers or freedom.
Can you use both? If so add an additional feature to one and increase it's price. For example can you give one a zoom feature as well? Or just increase the .0x on it so it's more of a sniping night scope, I'm unsure whether you'll be able to get both meshes working optionally alongside each other but if you can it'd be a great way to go and if not you can always add additional scopes using the same mesh anyway and add variety that way.
1PN58 looks alot better imo might take up more screen space but hey not a big deal if its for night use you wont be missing much in the dark...
1PN93-4 would seem to be more sturdy, as the scope is closer to the mounting point
that being said, it would be more likely that STALKERS would be supplied with surplus 1PN58 scopes since they are old tech.
My vote goes towards the 1PN58 due to avaliability
1PN93-4 all the way
1PN58 would be hard to get today in working condition
