Report RSS Progress Report: October 2023

An overall status of the mod's development during the month of October 2023.

I hope everybody had a great Halloween! But unlike the holiday, this mod's development was anything but spooky! (Or maybe it was, who knows)

FATHER VS. SON REMAKE

This month was heavily focused on the long-awaited remake of Father vs. Son. As of typing this, all major duel cutscenes have been completed, with the choice and subsequent endings still requiring development for Luke's side (and then Vader needs to be worked on of course).

I wanted to take this time to address a few changes, and also put to rest a few potential concerns regarding some possible controversy that may arise as a result of this news.

  • Less Endings: The original Father vs. Son had 8 endings. This will be scaled back to 4. The reason for this decision was because we felt that many of the endings would've taken a very similar (or simply identical) route to others that we felt had more of an impact. Other endings were omitted because we simply couldn't think of a believable story.
  • No Palpatine POV: Since the Palpatine POV in the original was only a choice duel, this POV will be removed and (SPOILER ALERT) you will only play as him if you betray Palpatine as Darth Vader in Vader's own POV.
  • All endings will be given a short what-if story: Similar to Duel of the Fates, all 4 new endings of the Father vs. Son remake will be greatly expanded on, with the non-canonical endings being given an original story to detail what could've been.

NEW MAPS

Our amazingly awesome mapper Lwkill has been hard at work this month creating and updating maps that we hope you'll get to experience soon!

THE EXECUTOR

IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER

CHARACTER ATTRIBUTES

A big issue that plagues most (if not all) Jedi Academy mods is that basically all characters act or behave exactly the same. Of course there are some minor AI changes depending on NPC classes, but overall, all NPCs behave roughly the same way. Other issues of course include some characters not having certain biological (or mechanical) improvements that you'd expect.

To help combat this, the first three brand new attributes have been coded to the game. More should be on the way at some point, but we feel this is a good foundation.

  • HERO: Allowing the heroes and villains of Star Wars to shine, Heroes take less damage from all sources, cannot be disarmed, are immune to mind trick and Force Fear, and deal significantly increased damage from whichever non-explosive weapon they're using.
  • AQUATIC: Aquatic characters cannot drown, simple as that.
  • HELD BY HATRED: Inspired by Darth Sion's mechanic, Held By Hatred allows a character on the brink of death to sacrifice a chunk of their maximum health to return to life and continue fighting. The more health the character has, the longer they can potentially last.

NPC FREE CHOICE SYSTEM

Ok! This is the big one, the most heavily requested features for the NPC Free Choice System are coming! You've asked, and we've delivered.

Next update: Model, Soundset, and Force Power customization!

CONCLUSION

It honestly surprised me how much we got done with the mod during this month, I'm very excited to bring this one out to you all. Next report we hope to have more updates on the Father vs. Son remake (including some development screenshots!) and hopefully more!

Thank you all for following the development of Star Wars: Galactic Legacy, and may the Force be with you.

I do wish that there were five endings to the mission, for I can think of one.
The Emperor dead and Darth Vader in charge of the empire with his son by his side.

We couldn't think of a good story for that scenario that felt unique or engaging.

I find it very curious that one of the most requested features is in-game modification of abilities. Personally, I ALWAYS modify the NPC files to give them the attributes I consider accurate and lore-friendly. I like to play with the lightsaber damage at its maximum and health values like 2000-3000 on some characters to make it all more realistic. Still, it's great to be able to modify it in-game :)

I would like to ask if there have been any developments with the "block system" or the "waypoints" on maps, for me, the most anticipated features!

So I'll answer your last question first. No developments have been made on a blocking system or map waypoints at this time. We want to focus on features we've been promising for a long time before tackling anymore large-scale projects, like Father vs. Son and eventually Deathstar Rescue on my end.

Regarding the modification of abilities and such, while maybe not as much of a heavily asked for feature as manual blocking has been, I have often received a number of suggestions regarding character abilities.

I've been asked multiple times to offer force power customization for both npcs and the players, and to me it seemed like the best step moving forward. I have been told countless times from people that they'll go into the files and edit them to match what they want.

While I can't prevent people from doing that, I'm implementing systems like this to hopefully discourage such actions being taken in the future. Doing that ultimately forces you to have to take an administrative approach to handling the mod, as any changes you make would be overwritten every time we release an update and you have to keep making notes on what you changed so you don't lose what you made.

The model customization hasn't been as heavily asked for, however I decided to implement this solely for the sake of freeing up space. Less NPCs the mod has to load, the shorter the load times end up becoming, and as expansive as this mod is, we need as much space as possible.

Please don't have Vader screaming Noooo we hate that change please put Sebastian Shaw Anakin's Force ghost and no Hayden Christensen is Anakin's Force ghost the only thing wrong about Hayden Christensen being Anakin's Force ghost is Anakin is no longer young anymore old man behind the mask he should be an old man that's a spirit ghost the last time Anakin was good this when he died in the Death Star because when Anakin Skywalker died in the Death Star he saved his Vader died he died a hero not a villain and everyone hates the change in Anakin's Force ghost.

Hayden works better as the force ghost.

Vader yelling NO is the only change I hate.

Regardless I intend to add customization options to the mission if I can figure it out.
