For regular news updates, check the Starlabs website! We all know that the government sent in troops to clean up the mess that the incident created, and we all know that the government had prior knowledge of the Xen race. But... how did they find out? Who was the one responsible for finding the alien life forms? It wasn't just one man, it was an organization. This organization is called Starlabs, short for Star Laboratories. This secret government funded project was created to search the stars for life. You are Carlos Freeman; A Special Research Associate. Meaning: You are the lucky person who gets to wear a special HEV suit and do all the dangerous work. Today you're up early and heading to work as usual. You take the subway, walk through the streets and sneak into the alley, towards the secret Southern sewer entrance as usual. You slide your card through the machine. As you wait for your card to be authorised, you think for a moment about a test in Nevada that you've heard...

Though I always thought I'd never give out this news (and have always claimed that Starlabs would be completed), now I know that I was wrong in thinking this wouldn't happen as well as claiming it. Regardless, I'm afraid I have to announce that Starlabs has been cancelled.

Why, will probably be on the minds of a lot of people who regularly visit this website.

The simple reason is that due to problems in real life, I no longer have the time but more importantly, the lust or motivation to work on Starlabs. Asides this, various members of the team have been very busy with real life events as well and while these developments are for the better for most of the team members, cancelling this mod is still a sad event for all of us.

I must admit that I've tinkered with the thought of putting Starlabs on hold, I reckon it would simply be unfair to both the team and the people awaiting the mod as I really don't have a clue when my time, lust and motivation will return and the real life events responsible for these problems, will dissipate. Therefor, I've decided to cancel Starlabs instead of putting it on hold.

But what does this mean for the contents that have already been created for Starlabs? Well, I'm planning on putting all Starlabs maps made so far (whether they're completed or not) in a sort of demo reel. Completing the mod would be far too time consuming (especially when you don't have the lust or motivation), but showing off what has been made so far should be relatively easy to do. I don't know when I'll have such a demo reel completed (as I'm not rushing it), but I hope that such a demo reel will at least satisfy the tastes of some people who've been waiting for Starlabs material.

A second release that I'm planning should be part of the mod Reissues. I'm planning on including a part of the most completed Starlabs chapter as a playable contribution so that all people who want to get a taste of some Starlabs action, should get it in the form of one (partial) chapter. (Six chapters were planned.) The chapter in question is Chapter 4: "Satellite Trouble".

And what about any other Starlabs material? In regards of mapping, no RMF files shall be released. The same counts for any voice acting or documentation; none shall be released. Asides these materials, it's up to individual team members to decide what they will do with the materials they've created.

Lastly, it's understandable that a lot of people will want to make their voice heard and they're free to do so on the Starlabs boards. Everybody's free to express their opinion as long as, of course, these opinions are made clear in a constructive manner.

Ending this newspost I'd like to thank everybody who's expressed their interest in Starlabs and to everyone who's contributed to it. Both in regards of thoughts and services, as well as constructive feedback. I've learned a lot in these three (and a half) years of development - more than I could ever learn at college - and that's more then enough to have made this worth my effort, even if it never got finished!

Regards,
- SEThorian

I will have to dissapoint you by saying that, like stated in the news post, I have no intention of handing out any Starlabs source material. I do appreciate the offer and am familair with Phillip's idea. So I'd like to thank you for the offer, but will refuse to use it. I'll keep an eye on the project. I'm interested to see some of the results in the future!
