Smile is a custom campaign addon for Cry of Fear. You wake up in an operating room. The first thing you realize - you can walk. Your legs, they are fine, like nothing has ever happened to them. The door leading outside the room is open, you take this to your advantage and get out. There is just one lit area, lighted up by a lantern, and a recording. ‘The’ voice is telling you that you are trapped inside the North Haven Hospital for a little game. Do exactly as she says, and you’ll be just fine. Don’t, and you’ll be dead within seconds. While you walk through the corridors of eternal darkness with your trusty revolver, you’re starting to hallucinate - your past is haunting you, tears keep welling up in your eyes and you’re feeling like falling to the ground and crying until you die of exhaustion. While you participate her little game, you keep asking yourself the same question over and over, yet you can’t find any clear answers. What the hell is actually going on?

First news!

This custom campaign's development already started earlier back in 2012, but as Cry of Fear becomes standalone - and thus, it's own game - soon, I created a mod page for the game, and will now post any updates here.

Even though the standalone version of Cry of Fear will be released soon, I will not be able to get back to work immediatly.

I will have to get through my final exams first, after that I'll have more time for everything. Progress will be slow in the next two months, new screenshots/videos shouldn't be expected anytime soon. Thanks for understanding, and thank you for the patience.

What is Smile?

Smile is a custom campaign for Cry of Fear, which takes place in the events that happen after the fourth ending of the game. This and the given description, are the only things that get revealed from the story, as discovering it is a part of the puzzles that the player has to solve.

The custom campaign's puzzles affect the gameplay in various ways - a failure doesn't necessarily mean death, but instead has an impact on the story.

Not much information is being given away in aim to provide the players an unexpected experience.

Features:

  • 1 - 2 hours of gameplay
  • Failure or success? Puzzles affect the story line, depending on how the player will be solving these
  • Locations mapped after real-life ones such as the Rotten Beauty hospital and Geisterschlucht
  • Custom weapons, textures and items
  • Exlusively features voice acting from the Creepypasta midnight society

Sad that it's dead. The screenshots made it look so good, and it had so much potential. Hope I can get the sdk to work so I can make a campaign.

It's on ice at the moment due to technical issues. I'd like to continue working on it, but it's a tad bit difficult at the moment. Didn't want to reveal this in an update though, but seeing as it has been a long time since it was updated, I will consider doing an update on it soon, informing everyone about the issues.

Nice custom campaign man, but I have a question. What must I have to use the Cry of Fear SDK? Do I need Half-Life or it isn't necessary anymore? Keep up the work man, I'm waiting for this to come out

Thanks! To use the Cry of Fear SDK, you need Valve Hammer Editor 3.5. You don't need Half-Life, since Cry of Fear is now standalone. A tutorial on how to set up Valve Hammer Editor should be included in the SDK. If it doesn't help, you can always visit the forums and take a look at the mapping tutorial threads there.
