SWS is a vast modification set in a lore inspired by the Warring States period of Japanese history. While many of the concepts are inspired by history, this mod is also heavily influenced by Japanese Pop Culture, and how it has portrayed this time in history. In order to better fit the Elder Scrolls universe, this mod will include fantastical elements such as magic, demons and other RPG staples.

Looking good! The butt does look a little blocky compared to the rest of the detailed piece though. (Probably won't notice it ig though)

You are both right about the lower detail on the pummel (I use European terms interchangeably)but I've found that the only time the weapon is close enough for you to see the details is in 1st person, and the pummel is almost NEVER visible. I could probably delete it and no one would notice :P

I spent a good 30 minutes on a nice ornate pummel for one of the 'for looks' swords and then noticed this. Though I should have taken that into consideration when making these renders eh?

Thanks for the feedback!

Could the special katanas, infused with elemental damage or legendary abilities, have special designs and faint auras to make them magical and sexy as hell? :))))

Yes. I'm still deciding what effect and how visible, but I would like to include some sort of visual cue to indicate that a weapon is special. I'm not real impressed with the enchanted effects, so I'll probably do some glow-map etching and or attached magic-effects (like bound weapons, IE around the weapon, not on it)

Different colors or motifs will be an indicator of the weapon's abilities.

This is a very nice weapon. The engravings on the hilt seem to be just about the right level of detail; they're large enough to be seen from a reasonable distance (relative to the rest of the sword)without being oversize.

The blade's texture is pretty fitting- if a vampire as old as that is holding on to it, it's probably seen some nasty fights, so it makes sense for the flat to have some nicks. At the same time, they're subtle enough that it doesn't look like some cheap sword that was never all that great in the first place.

Looking at it, I'm really only wondering one thing, which is how long this beauty took to make.

Thanks for the in-depth feedback! Blade textures have always been a weakness of mine, so this mod is helping me get better.

The most time was spent in Mudbox detailing the hilt. Probably about 45 minutes, most of which was spent on finding out that Mudbox doesn't have 2D mirroring (Mirroring on X and Y for example). That is why the symmetry is somewhat unusual. The blade mesh was carried over from an older model but had to be re-worked to render in real time. The handle and wrap was made weeks ago as I knew most Katanas would have nearly identical handles so I made a stock asset.

I would rather have this weapon as a two handed, but I wanted it to sheath on the hip. Eventually I'll find a way to sheath two handed swords on the hip and I won't have to worry about it. The sword Abilities System doesn't play well with one-handed weapons, so one way or another this thing is going to be a two hander.

Description

The Mayakashi is one of the Grand Weapons in Warring States. While it may look like a regular Katana, this weapon has much more potential hidden within it.

When used by humans or demons, this weapon offers an extremely sharp blade in a well balanced, self sharpening and nearly indestructible package. But when wielded by a Vampire, the Mayakashi truly comes alive.

Like all Grand Weapons and Demon Weapons in Warring States, you can control the sword's attacks by power-attacking in different directions. Each direction unleashes a different ability. I won't give away this weapon's secrets, but I will tell you that it is known as the 'Sword of deception.'

Like many of the very powerful weapons in SWS, this one can only be found in the hands of its rightful owner, a vampire older than recorded history. Good luck getting your hands on it!
