Shattered Empires
=1919=
World War 1 caused the collapse of four great empires, the German Empire, Russian Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire and the oldest of them all the Ottomans Empire, who's history goes back almost 700 years.
The Shattered Empires mod will begin in late June 1919 with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which was signed exactly 5 years after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, and continues until roughly 1929 with the beginning of the Great Depression. It will feature many historical event messages and scripted events documenting this turbulent time in post World War 1 Europe.
This will be a sandbox campaign with no major wars going on except the Russian civil war and the Irish war of independence. The Entente has also collapsed due to the dissolution of the Russian Empire and the Kingdom of Italys anger over not getting the territory it was promised when they entered the war not being given to them. Therefore the only active alliances will be between America, Britain, France and Belgium.
Treaty of Versailles and Territorial Changes
The signing of the Treaty of Versailles saw the creation of many new nations and the restoration of some nations autonomy who had long ago lost their territory to the great empires of Europe. Some regions of German will also be occupied by the allied powers such as Alsace Lorraine being given to the French and American Forces occupying the Rhineland.
Desolation and Demobilization
Vast areas of Europe have been destroyed by the prolonged fighting during the war so many sections of the campaign map will either have level 1 buildings or just an empty building slot. This will include areas on the western front, eastern front, Italian front and the Balkan front.
Also the massive standing armies that were present at the beginning of the war are now gone. In their place will be small garrison forces protecting the capital cities to deal with the post war unrest most countries experienced. Notable exceptions to this will be the Russian Civil war and the Irish war of independence and the American occupation of the Rhineland.
War Debt and Reparations
Following the war many of the victorious countries of the Entente found themselves saddled with billions of dollars of debt and the Central Powers countries were forced to pay war reparations. Due to this the economies of all factions that participated in the war having drastically reduced economies that may takes years to recover from.
I will periodically post articles focusing on each faction and what happened to them during 1919-1929.
