This mod is work in progress. Retro Deathmatch is a BUILD Engine mod for Duke Nukem 3D recreating the 8bit to 64bit experience.
So, I've been looking into what I can do for music in my mod. I personally want music that matches the stage it's in. Thinking this through, I have a few ideas I might go with.
1: Only use stuff that isn't being flagged online.
"For example, old NES music never really gets flagged. But Nintendo is known to go after something from a more current game."
2: Avoid anything with a vocal soundtrack.
"For example, I was thinking of making a Crazy Taxi map. Well, it has vocal music, not to mention it's always flagged on YouTube.
3: Only use Midi music, it's kind of a remix.
"What I understand, remixes are not off the table and Midi music sound different in such a way, it never really gets flagged."
4: The last option is some royalty-free music.
"I honestly don't like this; it won't be the stage music the map is based around. It's not bad music, it's just a very safe option."
Anyways, as I work on porting the 8bit color palette. This is also something I need to think about for the mod. But at the end of the day, I hope to create something that is just fun, and there is nothing more retro than games that were fun. Not to go off topic, but AAA games just aren't fun anymore.
