2024 Revival and Updates news - Republic Commando: Battlefront mod for Star Wars Battlefront II

After only working on Return to Jinglin' Town for the past four years, Republic Commando: Battlefront has recently resumed development again since late 2023/early 2024. Many changes and fixes have been made since the original release of version 1.0 back in April 2020. Some of the notable and major updates will be outlined below.

Imperial Commando Era

Inspired by the novels Imperial Commando: 501st by Karen Traviss and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader by James Luceno, the Imperial Commando era will be featured on a limited number of maps and modes. This includes a campaign mission, which has been in development, based on the climax of the latter novel taking place on Kashyyyk.

Clone commandos are now working along side Trandoshans to fight Wookiees!

Delta Squad Campaign Missions

Originally, the Kashyyyk: Depot campaign mode allowed players to choose which member of Delta Squad to play as, and the player could change their choice throughout the mission by respawning. However, their AI squad members would be nameless clone commandos in plain white armor. Currently, these AI squad members are the other members of Delta Squad that the player does not choose. The catch is that the player is locked into their initial choice throughout the mission. From the modding side of things, this is done to efficiently disallow duplicate members of Delta Squad from running around the map. This will be the new standard for future campaign missions featuring Delta Squad.

Additionally, each member of Delta Squad now has a distinct specialty. Fixer has always had a faster fusion cutter to make repairs quicker. Sev carries more sniper rounds, but now there is less delay between each shot from his sniper rifle. Similarly, Scorch was carrying more anti-armor rounds, but now he can reload them much faster. Boss doesn't really have a specialty, but he does carry all the grenade types. I guess he's good at spamming grenades?

New CIS Heroes

There are only two for now. The first one is an air battle droid named B1A-126. The other one is the Geonosian known as Gizor Delso, based on the version from the stock Mustafar campaign. A version of that campaign mission is included as part of the limited Imperial Commando era.

Updated Scope Textures and Commando First Person

All scope textures have been fixed to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio, including the addition of two new ones based on the 2003 Clone Wars miniseries. Furthermore, the interior helmet that is part of the clone commando first person model obstructs less of the screen.
