In an alternate universe, set during the Seven Hour War, you find yourself plunged into the depths of an abandoned Aperture facility. Abyss explores the failed ambitions of the once-flourishing company, and the legacy it left behind. As the war rages above, you as the player will be confronted not only to the imminent danger it poses, but also to the existential nightmare from which it all started as you are taken deeper into the facility than ever before. Your choices have consequences, and your actions dictate your survival -- or lack thereof.

Post news Report RSS Our 2020 in a nutshell

This is a little summary of the year 2020. We've been quite busy both on the project and our personal life.

Hey everyone!

We’ve kept you waiting huh? It’s been just over a year since our last post on here, and we wanted to update y’all on the mod. First things first -- no, development hasn’t stopped! It’s been slow on the mapping side of things but we can assure you that we are actively working on the mod. The main reason this post is being made is to herd everyone on over to our Discord server. This is the best place to stay updated with news & development, and interact with the dev team. In case you don’t have Discord (how?), we also have a Twitter account where we post any updates as well.

So, point is - if you’ve somehow stumbled onto this page and are interested in the mod, please head on over to the places mentioned above. Do not expect this page to be updated frequently.

Now that that’s out of the way, a lot has gone on in a year. I’d say the most major thing to happen is the change in leadership, with our new project manager Waveform taking over from Pac0master. Rest assured, Pac is still very much an active and involved member of the team. Wave has really helped speed up progress on the mod, but unfortunately as of recently she has taken a personal leave of absence. Work has slowed, but it’s continuing at a steady pace. We’re all ready to welcome her back whenever she is ready.

Another critical thing that’s happened recently is the rewrite of the Game Design Document (GDD) as well as other internal documentation. Up till now, much of the game has been loose, scattered, and otherwise outdated ideas that’ve never really fully developed. A few months ago, work started on rewriting all this. We’re proud to say that all work on this overhaul is now nearing completion. Ideas have been developed and solidified, map descriptions have been finalized; we have a solid plan in place for the mod.

Aside from these two points, there’s been a number of other events. We’ve had plenty of new members join the team, new music has been composed, concept art has been drawn, and ~4 new maps are now either done or nearly done! I realize much of this doesn’t sound like a lot, but keep in mind that most of this has taken place in the last 3-4 months.

Now that being said, please, if you’re interested in helping with the mod (especially mapping!) please reach out to a member of the dev team on Discord! We’d really like to speed things up even more, and we need your help to do that.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. Your interest and enthusiasm for this project is what keeps us going and we can’t wait to show y’all more of what we’re up to. In the meantime, enjoy some screenshots down below.

As long as it isn't updated in infamous "Valve-time" then I ultimately have no complaints, not like my damn PC could handle the mod anyways due to it not being back to 100% yet of course. :<
