Experience some of the fiercest battles of WWII across North Africa with Mare Nostrum. Building on the realistic, tactical game play that made Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 a fan favourite, Mare Nostrum lets players battle it out in an all new theatre of war. Featuring British, Australian, German and Italian nations, choose from a range of authentic weaponry or crew 1 of 10 fully realised vehicles. With 8 different battle environments the game play is varied from gritty street to street fighting in urban surroundings, to all out tank warfare in the open desert. This is North Africa, but not like you have seen it before. On the 17th October 2008, Mare Nostrum became the first, third party game MOD to be made available on Steam.

We thought it about time for another update on ModDB so here it goes.

During our long period without any updates we have been working on several things. We are now at the stage of polishing off our first batch of weapons which we have in game and getting the remainder animated and ready to go in. With the new RO update we have also been twiddling knobs and pushing buttons in the level editor to make the most of the new bloom settings and get our maps looking the best we can. Steam has also undergone large changes with the Steam Communities addition and so we opened the Mare Nostrum Steam Community this week. We have over 80 members already so if you haven’t joined yet go and have a look:

We also released a load of new information sheets, which give some background information about the weapons, vehicles and units featured in Mare Nostrum. I have included four below but check out our gallery for the others.

Thompson M1928-A1 Info Sheet SMLE No.1 MkIII*

Our regular newspaper the Tunis Telegraph also sees a welcome return this month after an extended absence. Inside along with the usual exclusive images and developer interviews are articles on the Panzer II, Junker Ju 52, Thompson M1928-A1 and Commonwealth squad composition among others.

However no doubt for most the really important update is our teaser trailer. The trailer features footage of early in game tests of both the Bren MkII and Thompson M1928-A1 in our featured map, Tobruk. Whilst this trailer just gives a taste of what’s to come we hope it gives you a good idea of what to expect in the future form Sandstorm Productions.
