The inhabitants of Earth were coming closer than ever to a technological and biological singularity. Global unity was attained as the last real war ended, and in the largest United Nations conference ever held, representatives from every advanced country in the world drew up a treaty to resolve all religious and economic power struggles that were so archaic at this stage in humanity. Fifteen years ago, all permanent residency requirements were raised without notice, and set unreasonably high at that. It was made essentially impossible to change residency from one country to another. Citizens were not made aware of the reasoning for this, and any explanation ever given was so generic that no one could foresee the true reason. Five years later, the intent of this ruling was made clear. Using the growing worldwide fear of overpopulation as justification, childbirth was banned in all of the first-world countries in the world.

An announcement of the story-driven, science fiction, Source engine based mod Hope. Mostly to introduce myself, my intentions, and the mod.

Hey everybody,

As of now, I am working on Hope much more than I have been in the past, and I decided it was time to make a mod page to start getting some feedback.

The contents of the summary is currently the prologue of the story, just to give an idea of where it's headed. I'll be updating soon to give a more detailed summary of the goals of the mod. Right now it's planned to be a singleplayer or cooperative (two players) mod, depending on the players choice. I have always loved cooperative games and think there should be more, so I'm trying my hand at it. I'm currently working on this mostly alone, with a little help from friends here and there, so don't expect it to be completed too quickly, but I promise I am very passionate about this and believe that I can come up with some sort of finished project. However, I am having some problems with coding, but I only need some basic aspects of the game changed. I realize I can't make this a big undertaking and expect to finish myself so I am not hoping to create a massive project or anything. I just want to change a few things to stray away from a straight Half-Life universe based story.

If anyone would like to help in any way, I'd gladly appreciate it, but I am not relying on other people to get this done. Areas I would need the most help in are:

Character Modeling

Based on concepts I already have.

Basic Coding

Ironsights, and POSSIBLY a depth of field shader, depending on the difficulty. I have a general knowledge of C, but someone with experience in the Source engine would be a great asset to me, even if it they would just answer a few questions I have (the valve wiki members aren't very friendly to n00bs :P)

Prop Modeling

Basic props, environmental stuff, also not a priority at this point.

If you want to help, leave a comment here with some examples of previous work, or just send me an email and we can talk about it. I can also supply any information about the story you may need, but as I said I'll be posting more on that soon. I can supply a design document also.

I want the game to be very story driven, focusing on love, despair, and the prospect of hope(obvious??). The two main characters, male and female, also deal with the pain of being distanced from a lover, and uncertain about what is to come.

Thanks for reading, and any constructive criticism on what is shown so far is greatly appreciated.
