-Area 82-

The third map to be showcased in Zero Hour Battlefields is perhaps one of the most detailed map of all of the maps in the first map pack. Complete with a distinct theme and plenty of attention to detail, it is perhaps one of the best maps in the map pack as well.

Theme

The theme of Area 82 is actually quite simple, considering the amount of detail within it. The theme is simply two top secret military bases placed at opposite ends of the map, the combination of the two naturally called, Area 82. A large civilian city as well as other small areas on the outskirts of said city are present. These outskirts include a lazy farm, a once busy airport, and a small suburb, as well as a lucky oil strike. The military bases where once used to train U.S Soldiers, mostly preparing them for the fight against the G.L.A, although other training courses do exist, and rumors of secret technology did abound. This made this U.S base a prime target for attack, and now the city has been (mostly) abandoned due to the impending battle.

Strategy

There are several strategic elements in this map. The first of these is the ample amounts of defenses already set up for the commander. There are many garrisonable structures located throughout the map, both within the city, and in the military base. The entrance of the base itself is guarded by two guard towers, and the secondary entrances are guarded by two slightly small outposts. These are excellent candidates for garrison, allowing a commander to set up a quick defense without having to build any defenses right away. Another strategy plays only into the G.L.A's hands, as the map is full of cars, just waiting to be captured by insidious G.L.A terrorists. Also present is vast amounts of tech structures to be captured by any good commanders. Virtually every kind of tech strcuture is available at this map, making for some even more interesting gameplay. Another aspect is the vast amounts of resources. Four whole resource platforms are present on each starting point, not to mention the various Oil Derricks found scattered throughout the map. One last strategic aspect of the map is the single bridge that acts a chokepoint in the middle of the map. This is the only way for land forces to cross the river to get to the other side of the river, short of airlift of course. This means that the battle could go any way. The vast amount of resources could make this battle slow, and steady, but the large amount of tech structures and offensive opportunities could make the battle a quick and brutal ordeal.

Location

The two sides of the map are occupied by two parts of the secret military base: Area 82. Each base has plenty of build space, so that should not be a problem. Plenty of guard towers are present in the bases for garrisoning. Also, plenty of tech structures are located within them as well. Each base has regular training courses, as well as barracks, all used by the men of the now abandoned base. In addition to the ordinary training courses, special training courses exist within the base. One base has a training course designed to replicate the conditions of the Middle East, in order to fight the G.L.A. The other base houses a training base replicating that of a small Asian village, in order to help the Chinese in their fight against the G.L.A if need be. Outside of the base on both the right and the left, are small outskirts. One base has a small suburb on the left, and on the right is an equally small farm. The other base has an airport on its left, and a lucky oil strike on it's right. In the center of the map is the city, complete with skyscrapers, suburban houses, parks, as well as a small drive in theater. The city is separated by a single river, which can only be crossed by a single bridge. The entire city and base is nestled within a wall of small man-made hills surrounding the perimeter.

Conclusion

Area 82 is the most detailed, and perhaps the most strategic map in the first map pack in Zero Hour Battlefields. Full of tech structures, garrisonable structures, offensive opportunities, resources, and a single chokepoint, tactics in this diverse map could go in any direction. It all depends on how the various strategic advantages are utilized by a commander.
