*** About ***
Fatal Mode (Atomic) is a hardcore difficulty mod for Duke Nukem 3D - Atomic Edition, created by Oszkár Winkler. It adds many extra enemies to the original levels, making the game much more challenging but still not frustrating. Duke loses all his weapons and equipment at the end of each level, so feel free to use whatever you get on your current mission! The mod not only raises the enemy count but also gives more weapons, ammo and even secret places to find, so the gameplay remains fair. If you are a beginner Duke3D player, then Fatal Mode is probably not for you. The mod alters all 4 episodes and features great Duke Nukem covers and remixes from the following artists: Markie Music; DAR; Mike Norvak and Andrey Avkhimovich. The small rest of the music is from the HRP Music Pack and from the movie: Shutter Island. On the Nature of Daylight by Max Richter, remixed by BETKR.
*** Installation ***
Fatal Mode (Atomic) uses EDuke32, and arrives as a "preinstalled" ZIP file. Download the mod, then uncompress it to somewhere and copy the file called "Duke3D.GRP" from your legal, full version of Duke Nukem 3D - Atomic Edition into the main directory of the mod. So "Duke3D.GRP" must be in the same directory, where "eduke32.exe" is. When you first start the game via "eduke32.exe", you need to set your screen resolution in the popup menu. That's it, have a good time with the mod!

*** Notes ***
- Updating the mod's Eduke version is not recommended. This is the most stable version I could find in the Eduke download archive. Later editions seem to have some weird memory bug... at least on my side.
- Switching to Polymer rendering mode is not advised. It might cause frame drops and stuttering. Polymost rendering mode is your best choice.

Hey I just finished your mod and it was fantastic! The original 4 episodes are my favourite maps for Duke3D and a hardcore rendition really added more life to them! I loved going rambo with explosives blowing hordes of aliens to smithereens! The ammo and health distribution was just right and balanced. The new music really livened up the atmosphere and the challenge was fair and never frustrating. Well done on a great mod! :D
Thank you very much for your feedback and I'm glad you liked it. ;)
Check your PMs buddy oscarincage
Where are my PMs? I can't find them.
oscarincage u click on the little letter icon at the top of the page. I’ve talked to u before through PM. Anyways I’ll just ask here. How do I remove the pistol start for every map? I’m familiar with mapster.
My letter icon shows 0 new letters.
Anyway, you need to move the player start position to the original starting place (or the place you would like to start the map) on every map with Scroll Lock. I replaced it into a slime-filled little room on each map, because if the player begins a level on a damaging surface, it removes everything from his inventory.
Oh ok that’s a nice little trick. I like your style. Easy enough then. I’ll take care of it. Thanks for the help.
Can you make all enemies aggressive as the Enforcer?
Unfortunately, I don't know enough about the game engine to make such a change.
I ran into a problem on The Abyss where in the lava area after the ruins, the wall never came down. I had to noclip my way through to the Battlelord's spaceship
That's probably a game bug, nothing to do with the mod. I'm not sure which wall you are talking about but if you mean the wall near the shrink ray puzzle, there is a touchplate somewhere. You need to get the right spot, then the wall begins to explode and coming down.
I figured it might be Build Engine jank. Mod is great!
