The Drones mod for UT3 adds variety to gameplay through various small powerups represented by 'Drones' - spherical automated bots which hover around the character.

Post news Report RSS Drones Mod Announced for UT3!

Announcing the development of the Drones Mutator for Unreal Tournament 3. Drones adds innovative powerups to the game (a bit like Relics) to increase variety and introduce new tactics.

Drones introduces a variety (currently 5, but more may come later) of small power-ups in the form of automated, spherical robots which orbit the player until they detect a threat. These aren't your standard, boring power-ups though - these power-ups add new dimensions to gameplay and demand that players come up with new tactics in how best to use them.

The gameplay will be reminiscent of the classic 'Relics' mutator, but with more depth and new twists and tactics.

Virtually all content has already been created, and we expect to release this mod before Christmas this year.

The drone types will include amongst others:

Defense Drone

The Defense Drone detects when an enemy is nearby, and immediately projects a force field between you and that enemy. The field slows down projectiles which travel through it, giving you an extra chance to dodge out of the way. The only way to disable the shield is to destroy the drone projecting it - the drone is invulnerable whilst not projecting.

ElectroDrone

The ElectroDrone is passive until an enemy comes within a certain range of you. When it detects an enemy close by, it streaks to the target amd unloads thousands of volts into your enemy. The shock paralyses them for crucial seconds, allowing you to empty a flak shell into their face at your leisure. The ElectroDrone is only good for one use however, so use it wisely. Sneak up on your victim to perform a flawless execution, or keep your enemies at range to stop them using certain weapons - they wont want to get near you!

Looks lke an intresting idea although maybe different models for each drone should be used, im not too keen on using the same model. Also will these spawn with you again if you die but dont use them?

The drones spawn randomly on pathnodes, and the number spawned depends upon the size of the map so there may well be more than one of each type. Because of this, when you die you lose your drone since you're likely to be able to pick one up again relatively easily.

Different models may happen; at this point we want to concentrate on gameplay and balancing, and then possibly add more graphical content later.
