those guns are all Plasma based; they do massive
hull-damage but very little shield damage.
The "Sluggers" are the Bretonian EMP
missile, whihc will break shields in very few
shots.
Likewise, plasma weapons have a short range, but
the sluggers outrange them a but, so... shileds up
and bows down.

weapons...
