Dark Peak is a short Half Life 2 total conversion mod which I created as a solo coursework project peice in the final year of my BSc course in Computer Games Technology. I was given the task of creating a PC game (of any type or genre) and to write an 80-page report on its conception, design and implementation. I completed it in around 6 months and it earned 78 out of 100 possible marks. Due to the time limitations, the mod currently only contains 3 levels, and some elements of the game have not yet been changed from the Half Life 2 defaults (for example, the HUD). Dark Peak itself is an FPS Survival Horror game, with the majority of its environments based on the real-life rural town of Glossop in Derbyshire. The player begins in a public house, after being knocked unconscious by a mysterious 'quake' late at night. The player is then sent out to find help, and ultimately uncover the cause of the quake and the destruction encountered on the streets.

Sorry man, but A- this isn't a total conversion by any means, and B- while I give it plenty of points for time constrains and being a truly decent first shot, I would've gone back and put some more work into it before releasing it. Keep at it though !

pretty good, only complaints are the length (as stated by others) and that the lighting was weird, some objects were dark like they should be, but the world (brushes if i recall correctly) was fully lit, either that or my ATI card has failed me again... although it's unrealistic to just find some guy with a military grade deagle with rail system and all, it was nice to have a magnum weapon that was usable, being the lows V. highs weren't to the extreme (huge damage and slow rate of fire Vs. large groups of enemies 0.0) also good idea to remove the melee weapon, forcing the player to watch their ammo as they choose their first target, its kind of dumb to put a good weapon with infinite ammo into a survival game with resource conservation as a main mechanic. Although the supply closet/warehouse/thing could have been more helpful earlier on. The voice acting was good too, props to the actors. All n' all, very short but sweet. oh, and thank you military intelligence for being right about the hero not being a zombie :D.
note to self: need to learn to make shorter comments
i would add more levels maybe in Dark peak 2 make it 12 - 15 levels and tell how this happend

Wow, I didn't expect people would actually download this, I mainly put it up for my fellow Glossopians to take a look but yeah i'm pleasantly surprised! Thanks for all of you who have downloaded and/or commented anyway :D
Dark Peak was never supposed to be a fully polished product (though one day it will be), it was just to showcase the various design and development processes that I went through. I learnt a lot from making it, and it earnt me the marks that I needed, so in that respect it's a success I guess :>
