I think that guy is a little busy currently because if you click to maker team of this mod (and sometimes when you look that suggested mods at the right-down side of the screen) he does also have another mod for another game he works on. Let's give him some time, maybe he shall be back. :)
I will give to him as much time, as he wants, but just no need to promise that it will be soon

BFME2 supports a max of 11 factions, so I'd suggest to take a more AoE2-ish style and maybe implement subfactions.
For example, the Rus are one faction and Kiev, Novgorod and maybe others are the three subfactions (similar to Dwarves from Age of the Ring). This might ease up work for you since subfactions might share some units. Also for the pre-alpha, the Mongols(Golden Horde) would make much more sense than England. I think every update of this mod should be region focused (and a suggestion for the 11 factions):
Pre-Alpha: Rus(w.subfactions), Mongols, Teutonic Order (Total 3 Factions)
Beta: England, France, Germans(of which Teutonic Order become one subfaction, the 2nd is HRE). (Total 5 Factions)
V1 - Iberian: Spanish(Aragon and Castille subfactions), Saracens, (9 factions)
V2 - Mediterranean: Italians(Venetians and Neapolitans Subfactions), Byzantines* (7 factions),
V3(Final): Crusader States, Ottomans,
*Byzantines might have subfactions: Costantinopole, Serbians, Bulgarians, Epirus
