Side Ops are companion campaigns to the original C&C Red Alert that explore what was going on at the other fronts during the Allied and Soviet campaigns.

Side Ops - 1 Year Later

News

So, it's taken me a year to go back and fix all those spelling mistakes? Well, I've been working on a little bit more than that.

To be honest, I probably could not have been able to muster the effort had it not been for the excellent updates to Nyergud's Mobius Map Editor for RD, RA and Sole Survivor (t's awesome and still getting updates), and the constructive comments my work gets on TaxOwlBear's and C&C Gameplay's Let's Plays. It's great to see the C&C community still has more to give.

Well, in that year I've made TD Side Ops, and today it was released in it's full V1.0.

TD SideOps

Cheers to James for letting me tweak one of his excellent maps and put it into Side Ops. Please checkout a playthrough of his map:

Hopefully at least some of the map ideas in TDSO are new or interesting to you:

I've today also released an update to RA Side Ops, taking it up to V1.1.

RA SideOps

So... what's new in TD and RA Side Ops?

I've slightly tweaked some maps in TDSO, posted the definitions for all custom units I used in RASO, and created the new RASO mini campaign - Invasion of America.

The synopsis is:

Now that Europe has been conquered and a Continental Soviet Union is a reality, it is time to invade the United States. The fight will be a brutal tour across North America, from New Mexico to Canada. What are the Allies willing to do to survive? Time will tell.

I've got the briefing for the first mission, "Pandora's Box", below so you can figure out if you want to give it a try:

The Soviet Union will soon invade America, but first we need to disable the US nuclear missile silos. Our brothers have destroyed early warning equipment at Cape Romanzov, allowing us to infiltrate the area with Psi-Corps Troopers. Get the Troopers into radar domes around the area to amplify their psychic dominance. Once the way has been cleared by our own enemy, infiltrate Missile Command with a Trooper. If you attack the base yourself the Americans are sure to retaliate, so be subtle.

If that sounds like your bag, please try out V1.1.

So what's the future of Side Ops?

Well, I've been getting to grips with the World Altering Editor for Red Alert 2. Let's see how that goes. Maybe I'll have an update in a year...

Side Ops Tiberian Dawn... Dawns

News 4 comments

Commanders,

Side Ops continues into Tiberian Dawn and a new campaign is released!

TDSO

This project will be smaller than RA Side Ops, jus 44 missions, mostly due to the naturally more limited scope of what *I* can achieve in TD.

If any of you have any suggestions for the 'Covert Ops' expansion for this Map Pack I'd love to see them in the comments.

Side Ops Complete is... Complete

Commanders,

The scope of Side Ops is now global, stretching from the Bering Strait, all the way around the globe, to China.

It took a little longer than I hoped... but it's done.

Time for a brew. So what now?

I have no future projects in mind, but I will be going back and looking at my earlier maps and applying what I've learned to improve them. This has no time scale and shouldn't substantively change a mission, just polish it up a bit.

The latest 6 missions have been the most challenging, testing the limits of my skill, the engine, and my creativity! I'll release the little bits of data I wrote to change units to be the GLA and 1930's units - something I wasn't sure was possible when I had the idea, but seems to work ok :)

As always suggestions for how to improve, or ideas for future works, are always appreciated.
