SDK: Die Kampfgruppen (SDKDK) is the third chapter of the trilogy I have created based on the battle of Stalingrad. Following Stalingrad: Der Kessel , released in 2006 and Stalingrad; Operation Circle, released one year after. SDK: Die Kampfgruppen was intended at the beginning of its development to be a submod of Der Kessel, intended to relate the fights of these famous ad-hoc battlegroups, well known from those who have in interest for this battle, as Kampfgruppe Simons, Kampfgruppe Goebel, Gruppe Hollidt etc… Then, as time passed, I came to the conclusion that this”sub-mod” had become a truly new mod! In SDKDK, you will have the possibility to fight in the Don Ring, between November 19th and December 4th, with all these ad-hoc battlegroups in front of rushing Russian armored brigades from historically present 5th Tanks Army, 16th Tank Corps etc… The game is playable on 24 maps, most of them new or repainted, includes tons of new graphics, sounds and new AI settings.

The StuG III is self-propelled & capable of indirect fire. It's unfortunate that CC doesn't have the capability to choose between indirect, & direct fire. :(

Mmmm, the StuG's were capable of indirect fire, yes, but they were 99% used as tank destroyers, so in direct fire...
IMO, you maybe make a confusion with StuH's (Sturmhaubitzen) like StuH-42 armed with a 10,5cm gun, which were more dedicated to indirect fire.
Maybe I am wrong? Is there anybody here who could add a comment?

Close Combat in general has a problem in this category of weapons. For example: The M7 Priest, Wespe, Hummel, Sexton, Semovente & SU-122.

Hi Giggs,

Yes, this article says basically what I was thinking...
Anyway, in SDKDK, StuG's are not so vulnerable, as I coded them with the good front armor they actually had.

Cheers

Not being able to fire behind cover, like hills or buildings, makes them extremely vunerable.

Description

This image is so nice that I could not resist to upload it here...
the StuG III ausf. F/8 was equipped with the powerful StuK 40 L/48 gun, which was lethal for any Russian tank at the time of the Stalingrad battle.
In SDK: Die Kampfgruppen, the Panzerjäger Abteilungen of the Kampfgruppen Simons (Pzjäger Abtl.611) and Lepper (Pzjäger Abtl.46) are equipped with some of them.
I hope that you will appreciate the purity of the outline, as well as the huge power which gets out from this Monster Killer!
