My third project in the Canon Extended series. Carnivores Modern Days finally gets to see its full potential. No longer will you find a polar bear in Africa or a rhino at the North Pole. This mod also puts Modern Days into the Carnivores universe (unofficially). In quick summary, think of the story/plotline as a combination of Cityscape & Ice Age.

Okay, i played your mod a bit. I would say you made a good job improving this mod! The idea of combining aspects of both Modern Days and original Ice Age turns out great, and this version is definately better than original Modern Days. If someday somebody going to make a very big "Earth setting" mod (basically a Siberian Expedition-quality with Modern Days-quantity) - they should probably take inspiration and ideas from this one.

Few things that bothered me the most at this point:

1) Brontotherium. Those guys are so annoying! You start the game, and then you instantly die, because one of them always spawns very close and almost always attacks you, before you able to pull out a weapon.

2) I think while some earth animals are properly scaled down (they are smaller than their alien counterparts), some are still much larger than that would be possible in real life. For example, i managed to kill a Great Grizzly Bear, and it was as big as real life Tyrannosaurus (9 tons, i am not kidding), and my Great African Elephant trophy towers over Mammoth. Even if "Greater" animals supposed to be much bigger than average, i dont think they should be that big, so many of them should be scaled down even more.

3) Its more about Ice Age whole, not necessary this particular mod. Yeti text in menu should be fixed. You can use the size of bear (4-6 meters, 3 tons), because they are pretty much the same size, except Yeti is bipedal.

4) I was very confused about warthogs on African map. They use the same textures and models as Ice Age warthog. Yes, they spawn in groups unlike Ice Age hogs, they are smaller, and not dangerous, but still - too similar. I also spotted few fish creatures floating above the water on this particular map.

Thank you so much for your feedback! This mod was by far the most complex because of all the rescaling i had to trial and error. The great ones were a bit annoying for me because i was worried that a great one would be pathetically smaller than its original counterpart. Of course, i think i did go a bit overboard for the elephant and grizzly great one and maybe the gray wolf too.

I literally thought of the warthogs as i was uploading the mod. I mean, there's no excuse because i already change the colour/texture of the white rhino to make it a black rhino. That will definitely be on the top of my list. I think a light brown fur coat would do nicely.

I am still learning how to make custom menu pics but im getting close. The yeti menu text is on the list to fix thanks to you.

As for the bronto, there really isn't much i could do to fix that. The only thing i could think of is to decrease their aggression.

Yeah, ice age does feel a bit stronger than modern days in this mod, but what else could i do? Modern days covers locations on different continents with different climates. Even with the Modders Edition Engine, animals would still spawn in unnatural areas. This of course, unfortunately, caused an inbalance of map ambients in areas, colorado and alaska are jam packed and Africa has much less.

This is why i created a story so that i didn't have to worry about that. Ice Age meets cityscape, and if you think about it cityscape was almost the same way as it was carnivores meets resident evil.

But tell me what do you think of the story, the new main menu music, new animals, and the idea of trophy hunts?

As soon as i get the chance to work on this mod i will definitely make those fixes.

Also is this the first ice age mee mod to be released? The only one i can think of is dragon quest, which has strangely disappeared from my radar.

----Post edit: I have released the patch update for the mod

Okay, sorry for late answer, as you can see a made a profile.

Yes, you did a great job! For now - yes, your mod is first released Ice Age attempt on MEE (there was a Triassic MEE, i think, but it was quickly deleted for some reason). I like how you actually put time and effort in your work, so i wanted to give you some feedback and suggestions, because you deserve it.

No, naming them just "great" is fine for this moment. After all, Carnivores is not supposed to be super-realistic - just because this mod takes place on Earth doesn't mean we can't have our own natural (or not so) almost-kaiju animals, especially in future. Maybe they are mutants, just like mutated dinosaurs from Reborn. I just feel like most people dont realise, how huge most fmm uv-32 animals are, even the smallest ones.

As all dinosaurs in cityscape were crazy-aggresive, maybe bronto also could act differently on Earth... but instead, would be much more passive and skitish? Just trying to come up with some explanation for possible gameplay change.

Well, just a little different tone on warthogs skin would make a difference, just like you already did. I do feel like Black Rhino also needs to get a better reskin.

Music is fine, maybe a little too quiet, but i actually prefer it this way. Story was pretty interesting, i liked reference to that Saurian Target video, and as i said - it was good decision to mix both Ice Age and Modern Days. As for animals, i think my favorite is caribou. Skin looks beautiful, and its cool to see them in large herds of them grazing or running from danger in snowy fields.

The term "great" is a reference to theHunter: Call of the Wild, certain animals have Great One variants that are colored differently, larger, or sport larger antlers/horns.

Well, you asked me to fix the Brontoteriy killing the hunter instanty so I turned down their aggression. Plus, an animal in an unfamiliar environment is probably more skittish & the brontoteriy is herbivorous, so it isn't as aggressive as the dinos of cityscape.

I probably should tone down the darkness of the black rhino skin. I agree its bit too dark.

Ideas for a next update: cassowary (Diatryma but blue, red and black), Gorilla (yeti but black), Dragonfly, (meganeura of carnivores Cityscape but brown with yellow, hippopotamus (rhinoceros but without horns, ai: brachiosaurus), Sea turtle (ai: parexus)

Those are fantastic ideas oswald!

DEFINITELY POSSIBLE

Gorilla - Easy to implement as its just a reskin, it would most likely be endemic to Botswana.

Dragonfly - Mandibles has a meganeura model, so I could use that model for the dragonfly. All I would need to do is scale it down so that the dragonflies are really small. They would be endemic to Colorado, South Africa, & Botswana.

Sea turtle - By far my favorite idea & I’m surprised I didn’t think of it at the time. I would use the Archelon and scale it down to a more appropriate size. It would probably spawn on all maps like the tiger sharks.

POSSIBLE BUT UNSURE

Cassowary - It wouldn’t surprise me if someone did a cassowary reskin of a diatryma so I could go look for one. If not, I could do the reskin myself although I am still fairly new at it. However, cassowaries are only found naturally in Australia, which is currently not a part of the locations used in Modern Days. New maps are a possibility however, but I’m not sure yet.

Hippopotamus - I am still new to editing models but if the rhino’s horns are like the smilodon’s teeth so that they are easy to remove, I could do that. I would just need to figure out how to move it from woolly rhino ai over to brachiosaurus ai. If it somehow manages to become possible, it would be endemic to South Africa & Botswana.

If you come up with anymore ideas, let me know!

What do you think of the mod so far? What new features do you like most?

—————————————

A new map I have thought about adding is the winter Delphaeus Hills map addon and calling it Siberia. So far my endemic animals list for Siberia includes:

Altai Wapiti - A reskin of Modern Days elk
Eurasian Lynx - A reskin of the new Canada lynx
Eurasian Wild Pig - A downscaled version of Hogzilla with maybe a slight texture edit
Eurasian Wolf - A reskin of Modern Days gray wolf
Ussuri Brown Bear - A new reskin for the Ice Age bear

Nice mod - are you also going to make one for Triassic, Mandibles, and Ice Age (or even combine Ice Age and Far North)?

Yes, those mods are also on my list. Mandibles is most likely to be next.
