Run. Think. Shoot. Live. Source. BMS Classic is a game-wide modification of Black Mesa that aims to revert some of the changes made in the 1.0 and 1.5 updates, as well as fix various bugs and oversights, improve performance, and reimplement missing setpieces and sequences from the original Half-Life - removing self-locking doors, allowing the player to backtrack and explore at their own leisure, restoring puzzles, rebalancing combat and supplies, and more.

Post news Report RSS Short November/December 2021 Update

Quick post for November/December 2021, mainly to reassure that BMSC is still being worked on (Also some Xen screenshots).

Hey, folks. Been a little while, huh?

So. I was hoping to have BMSC Lambda Core done by the time I wrote this article, but as you can see, that hasn't happened. Barring that, I was hoping to get it done before the end of the year, but I'm not sure how feasible that is, either, to be honest. There's a handful of different reasons for this - health issues, stress, being busy in general... The one big breakthrough that we've made is that I've managed to find a way to edit the Xen maps in Hammer without having it crash on me all the time - now it only crashes sometimes. This is a pretty huge game-changer, and I have to admit to getting a little carried away with it when I realized what I could do.

I don't have too many screenshots of Xen to share yet, because everything I've done with it so far is very largely proof-of-concept and experimental - playing with lighting, expensive water, taking some layout inspiration from the Xen Museum maps, etc. Some parts of it are very likely to stay as-is, but others are not - especially with performance being such a hugely important consideration.

I've also admittedly been sidetracked with playing around with modding for other games. I'd be lying if I said that wasn't where a lot of my focus is at the moment - and coupled with real life getting in the way as always, it's been getting harder and harder for me to pick up BMSC again. That's not to say that BMSC is cancelled by any means, because it's not - if anything, it's just on hiatus for a bit.

I'm sorry for the protracted delay. I hope you'll bear with me for a bit longer as I regain my footing. I'm really looking forward to getting to play around with Xen some more - I hope you'll look forward to it!
