Age of Strife is a complete conversion mod for Lord of the Rings, Battle for Middle Earth. Set in its own fantasy world it aims to allow players to use several new factions with a few altered gameplay mechanics for some hopefully enjoyable skirmish battles. Over time new factions and maps will be added, gameplay will be refined and animations will be improved, so if anyone plays the current version and likes it keep an eye out periodically for new content.

A brief update on the progress of the next release and further information on its contents.

For those interested in this mod I thought I'd provide a little further information on what the next release will likely contain and current progress, so without further ado...

What to Expect:

  • New Faction: This is the updates main purpose, it will add the Order of Mantyer, a holy army on crusade supported by the powers and creations of their deity. They are a primarily offensive faction, able to set up and start producing units quickly as well as having powerful siege weapons but lacking castle walls and having rather flimsy buildings, different types of Order unit also buff each other so you'll want to have a mix in order to get the best out of each.
  • Gameplay Tweaks: There will be a few minor changes to gameplay to get rid of bugs or simply slightly improve the game in general. An example of this is that heroes are now called in by a one use spellbook power unlocked by purchasing the hero, this prevents an existing problem where heroes always appeared beside the players starting castle/camp, even if that position was no longer under their control.

Progress:

  • What's been done: Order buildings, Order heroes, Order buildable units, two summonable Order units, some work on the Order spellbook and some gameplay tweaks.
  • What's still to do: Four more summonable Order units, some more work on the Order spellbook, worldbuilder scripting, error and balance checking and possibly some more gameplay tweaks

What to Hope For:

A little progress is also being made with getting the mod voiced, if things go well enough the next update may be delayed slightly in order to come out voice acted. I'm likely to start work on a few in world maps as well soon, complete with a few new creeps to inhabit them, if the release is the voice acted version these will also be included, if not then another update with voicing, the new maps and fixes to any bugs reported from the unvoiced release will come out a little while later.
