that is just breathtaking. make sure you back up all your data for this on a separate hard drive. don't make the same mistake i did. it would be a shame to lose all the work you've done on this. it looks fantastic!

wow, nice!
but one thing: is it possible to write a new shadow shader in UE3 to avoid shadow-in-shadow "effects"?

Possible but then the shadows go pitchblack, i could then add a global light that brightens up the the black shadows. But then the shadercomplexity explodes. The current shadowtechnique has its downsides but looks better artwise and is cheaper with only one light. Unreal has the possiblilite to do better modulated shadows but not in the UT Build.

Why would you not want that? It's the same as in real life.
But this is seriously nice guys, love the detail that's put into this.
It's simply graphically beautiful. Can't wait to see a demo.

yes and no in real life two shadows intersecting would not create a darker shadow though

That depends on the lighting really. Go try it out yourself.

How did you get the dynamic shadows on the ground to look so smooth. I've always had trouble with blocky shadows in Unreal

It's true, shadow does indeed make another shadow darker the intenser the light gets on that point. Use some spotlights and you'll notice the difference. Looks realistic enough.

here it is, still unbaked old test geometry for the environment and the tree is only from crysis to test if the outline can handle the amount of detail, it can so we gonna ad some real trees soon
the level geometry is almost done but needs to be finally baked and th will be done once we have the dummies tested out and know that we won't change too much...
