Posted by on - Advanced Design/Concepts

This article is a explanation of the military units of Age of Stainless Steel mod. This is the 5th part of this tutorial, and this time we will focus on just one unit - The Knight. The knight is the most powerful unit in every era, it has very few weak points, but if you "can" build huge numbers of knights you are invincible. The reason you can't build huge number of knights is because they have their own population limit: +5 limit for each castle (castle and town center have their own limit on max: 1,2,4,8 dark to imperial), +1 limit for each tower and they are expensive buildings (300 stone + 40 wood). So for 7 castles and 25 towers (26400 stones in total), you can build a maximum of 60 knights. Now lets check in more detail:

A1. Feudal Knight

The Knight is armed with a lance, a very powerful attack weapon, that it can pierce most armor. The Feudal Knight is the first unit in the line and it can be recruited in Dark Age, but it need 5 blacksmith armor research. The mounted stats are very good, but the dismounted stats are the best. Once dismounted this unit have sword and shield, sword will double the damage bonus against spear units and shield will decrease any unit infantry bonus, this makes it harder to kill. The dismounted Feudal Knight is better than any castle age infantry. The knights armor research in Feudal Age increase dismounted Feudal Knight armor, equal to dismounted Chivalric Knight.

A2. Chivalric Knight

The Knight is armed with a lance, a very powerful attack weapon, that it can pierce nearly every armor. The Chivalric Knight is the second unit in the line and it can be recruited in Feudal Age, but it need blacksmith armor research. The stats of this unit are improvement of the stats of Feudal Knight. Chivalric Knight has the biggest improvement in armor compare to any units once reach Castle Age. This unit is very hard to kill at full set and arrows are useless.

A3. Noble Knight

The Knight is armed with a lance, a very powerful attack weapon, that it can pierce nearly every armor. The Noble Knight is the third unit in the line and it can be recruited in Castle Age, but it need blacksmith armor research. The stats of this unit are improvement of the stats of Chivalric Knight. The mount Noble Knight have little improvement from it's predecessor, but the dismounted unit change a lot. The dismounted is armed with longsword but it has no shield, the longsword decrease bonus to spear units to times 1.5, but it gives this unit area damage. On the other side the absence of a shield will decrease the infantry bonus resistance to 0. This unit can kill waste numbers of enemy.

A4. Royal Knight

The Knight is armed with a lance, the most powerful lance, that it can pierce every armor. The Royal Knight is the last unit in the line and it can be recruited in Imperial Age, but it need blacksmith armor research. The stats of this unit are improvement of the stats of Royal Knight in every part. The Royal Knight have better attack, better armor, and better dismounted unit. The dismounted Royal Knight have the best sword available and the best armor of any unit. The only way to kill this unit is with guns or with other Royal Knight.

This is the end of part 5 - The Knight unit, will continue soon with other military units of Age of Stainless Steel.
