Posted by on - Advanced Design/Concepts

This article is a explanation of the military units of Age of Stainless Steel mod. The units will be group in lines (equal a base unit with all it's upgrade unit), and will start organizing them in their train buildings. The list starts first the the common trained units that consumes only food and wood to be trained, and only tent population:

1. Polearm Barrack units

Spear Line

a. Spear Line. This is the base infantry for the Dark Age. Not like the vanilla line, units on this line are Spear Militia, Spearman and Heavy Spearman. This line is composed of infantry melee units with spear and shield. The advantage of this line is that has a shield, bonus fighting mounted units, better armor than archers and it's one of the first unit that can be recruited. The disadvantage are the lower ROF than sword units, not a good piercing armor and being a foot unit. These units are good for start of the game for defending against mounted units, but very weak in the high ages against everyone.

Pike Line

b. Pike Line. Unlike the vanilla that this unit was just the upgrade of spearman, in this mod it's a line composed of Pikeman and Late Pikeman. Pikeman, like in the vanilla, is available in the Castle Age, but for this mode this is a late unit, taking in account that it is the same time as Heavy Spearman (the last upgrade of spear line). The advantage of this line is that has good attack, bonus fighting mounted units and their armor can be upgrade and have high values. The disadvantage are the lower ROF than sword units, the first unit of this line is very weak by recruiting age standards, weak against ranged units and being a foot unit. The defensive power of this unit can be seen after fully upgraded.

Halberd Line

c. Halberd Line. Unlike the vanilla this is one of the most powerful units. Halberd Militia and Halberdier are the two units of this line. This units are professional soldier armed with halberd. The advantage of this line is that has good attack against everyone, bonus fighting mounted units and best armored common soldier. The disadvantage are the lower ROF than sword units, high cost, very late unit and being a foot unit. The best defensive common soldier.

Pick Line

d. Pick Line. This is a complete new unit. Basically it's a soldier with pick (pointed hummer). The advantage of this line is that has good crush attack, high damage per second, high ROF and bonus fighting units with low melee armor and no shield. The disadvantage are the low armor, not an early unit and being a foot unit. An alternative axe armed unit.

This is the end of part 2 - The Polearm Barrack units, will continue soon with other military units of Age of Stainless Steel.
