Hello,
Okay to bring everyone up to speed the recent update for SDK pretty much broke the mod and almost nothing can be worked on. So I started to think of my options and so far I've thought of two things, either wait for valve to fix the SDK or move the entire game over to the Unreal engine. With the semi-new release of the UDK for indie game makers indie games have sprouted up everywhere using the Unreal Engine. I've looked at tons of videos of engine demos and it seems to be the next best if not better choice. Here's the UDK Launch Trailer if you havent seen it yet:
Yeah so I don't know I'm kind of torn, I mean we got the source engine on one hand, it's pretty much a classic to me, in terms of an engine, like I've been mapping and skinning on it for years, but UDK looks so sexy and flexible. So what's it going to be? Drop a comment or shoot me a message if you have a valid opinion. Please just don't leave "Source Engine just cause" kind of comments. I need a legit reason to do this.
Source, no other but source, unless you are making this into an indy game and feel like making all the content yourself...
Stick with Source, because it's more likely to be fixed in a timely manner than you would be able to recreate all the resources for the UDK.
I say yes to UDK :)
Always loved SDK but its pretty old and outdated...j
Are you mad?
UDk is prety new!
Nah, stay with source. You get a ton of content to start with and only need a small team. With UDK you have to start from bare bones code and no content. So basically what your asking is "Should I have patience or scrap the whole thing and start over."
Ehh, the Unreal Engine is good, but it always seemed kind of odd mapping for it. I tried the original UnrealEd for the first Unreal, and I tried UnrealEd 3 for UT3 and Mirror's Edge, and both pretty much work the same. I guess it's kind of easy to use, but after mapping for Source and Radiant and stuff like that, it seemed kind of weird. You just have to get used to CSG, adding and subtracting, etc.
