Abandoned Town is a cryengine1 map set in a city like Pripyat. Technically more a map than a mod, it is composed mainly of non-vanilla objects. City buildings, streets and ambience are all inspired by STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl. The city landscape has been created by moddb member Vikom, and is largely complete. I will be doing the completing, ie Mission.lua, radar points, triggers, screen text, save points etc., plus my own ideas and add-ons.

Portals. I don't know if players are interested in what goes on under the hood, but I'm very pleased I just mastered portals. Tricky little things, they must be just right, no half measures. Placing over doors between rooms is fun, either the door goes invisible, or you see black voids where the walls were. Experienced players probably do them in minutes, not take all afternoon.
Messy naming conventions are my fault, lol.

Moddb.com

These are the VisAreas and Portals from the space station in the original but unfinished Black Holiday sp_map for FarCry. They were a bit too complicated and causing a lot of problems with their complexity. eg the walls disappearing into black voids, and door disappearing. So I simplified them A LOT for the remake.
@ CheekiBreekiJr It's a big subject. Big advantage for me is that whatever is created inside a VisArea can't be seen by either the player or the computer from the outside. So you can stack a heap of rooms, mercs and objects inside without affecting CPU load and FPS. Minor benefit imo is affect on lighting between two adjacent rooms. The portals simply allow you to see into a VisArea over a room, or tunnel, from outside. And if you are inside, to look out. Usually they are placed over a doorway between rooms, or over a skylight that looks up to the sky.
