This mod is inspired by the mod Anno Domini 1257 but will have several important differences: 1. The mod will be more focused on North Western Europe 2. The mod will go into large levels of detail for the settlements with 500-2500 planned settlements 3. The mod will focus on making a more interactive and immersive environment for the player (Not to discredit 1257 AD)

how would the vassal system work? for eg, the earldom of chester, is a vassal of the kingdom of england. How would that work in the game?

Good Question! So as of right now there are four Kingdoms which have vassal states (planned).

England (2-5) - Meath, Chester, Gaelic Kingdoms (possibly), Scotland (Possibly), Gwynedd (Possibly)

France (5) - Toulouse (Though at war with), Brittany, Burgundy, Flanders, Champagne

HRE (19) - Bohemia, Austria, Cologne, Thuringia, Brandenburg, Pomerania, Savoy, Welf, Bavaria, Carinthia, Lorraine, Brabant, Viennois, Liege, Luxembourg, Aquilea, Madgeburg, Holstein, Pisa

Papacy (2) - Florence, Genoa

Ok so now to explain. There will ideally be multiple factors in determining how many troops a vassal state will send. The first factor is Distance from the conflict. If a vassal-faction is on the other side of the alps or very far away it is unlikely to send many troops to its leigelord and will most likely end up sending perhaps a single Lord with ~50-100 troops. On the other hand if a vassal-faction is right next to the conflict they are likely to commit at least half of their troops unless they are at war with another faction in which case they might send only 2-3 lords. That is the second factor: the stability of the vassal-faction, if its at war, its lords are in revolt, etc, its unlikely to send many troops to its leigelord because it cannot spare many. Finally the personal relationship and character personality will go a long way in determining how many troops are sent. For example a dishonorable lord who has +50 relation with his leige may end up sending less than an honorable lord with only +10 with his leige.

This system is mostly geared towards preventing the Holy Roman Empire from completely dominating the map early on but will also have minor effects on the other leige-factions. Similarly we plan on having a similar system for regular vassals of the larger factions this was when the Emperor goes campaigning he wont have 30,000 men but more like 5,000.

that sounds amazing.
Some suggestions might be to split scotland into 4 vassal states. and england into maybe 5 or 6. I am assuming there would be the ability to usurp and become King of the country?

also it might be fun to see scottish independence wars or welsh independence wars or other such scripted events.

All the best for ur mod and I will be checking regularly.

Thanks,

Yeah the problem with adding more states at this point is that I don't want to start off with too many factions but perhaps in the future. England doesn't really need to be split up anymore because it had very strong central government and the only "client states" are the earldom of chester and the lordship of meath (wales and scotland too kind of). I mean there are a lot of marcher lordships which are semi-independant but most are not large enough to constitute a client state.

The HRE heraldry seems a bit off, shouldn't it be a two-headed eagle?

The Hohenstaufen banner is the three black lions on yellow. The Imperial banner itself is, at this point, a single headed eagle (its not until later that its double headed). Both the Hohenstaufen banner and the imperial banner will be included along with the white cross on red war flag of the Emperor.

I hope as a history student and Flemish person that the Flemish and Brabantian cities get the love they deserve, these were every bit as prominent as the north Italian cities at that time
