Brrrainz At Pax East 2015

yeticulture Blog

Hello Brrrainz!

We just wanted to make a brief update about our Brrrainz exhibition at Pax East 2016 last weekend. The festival was unbelievable—so many driven exhibitors with incredible games to showcase and so many passionate gamers ready to listen about your product and try it out!

brrrainz4Who you gonna call? Team Yeti with Ghostbusters in Pax East 2016!

We’re happy to say that everyone who has played Brrrainz loved it. Most of all, they liked the quirky humor in the game. They were amazed to realize that you actually play as a zombie horde and not the other way around as is usually the case in zombie games. They also love the fact that it’s a challenging game where you have to strategize your every move and may need to do a few tries before you move on to the next task or mission. Freaks are an especially cool feature the gamers took notice of. Freaks are supra-zombies who have special abilities that regular zombies don’t. They’re rare, so they must be used sparingly and wisely. You can read about a few of them in our Characters section. Overall, the festival was a fun and learning experience for us Yetis!

That said, we would like to thank everyone who has supported us from the start by backing us and sharing about us and who came on board right after. Your support and words of wisdom are muchly appreciated! We were able to fund our campaign to 30% in the first 48 hours of our launch. That is an amazing start! Let’s keep the brrrainergy going! If you hadn’t backed us yet but want to join our horde, you can do so here. And if you have, please keep spreading the word and follow us on these social media outlets:

The more people know about Brrrainz, the brrrainier!

Sincerely,
Team Yeti

We have been funding the development of Brrrainz for the last year and are coming to Kickstarter to raise funds for our last stages of development. With most of the assets completed, we are looking to raise enough money to allow us to work on Brrrainz full time. The next few months will be spent designing all the levels and boss fights and fine tuning the gameplay. We have always been big fans of Kickstarter as it supports indie developers and is an overall great community connecting wonderful projects with supportive fans. We want to see what the community thinks of Brrrainz and we are open to any feedback that we can get from it. We really want to reach out to the fans of indie gaming and hear what they have to say about Brrrainz, because we want to make it the best possible game for you!

Sincerely,

Team Yeti

New Special Enemy Character In Brrrainz: The Medic

yeticulture Blog

Special Enemies

As if the crafty humans and their assortment of weapons, bombs, and barricades were not enough to deal with, your horde has to deal with special enemy types. These enemies support their own kind and generally make your life–or rather living dead–miserable.

The Medic

The Medic is a doctor who lost his license because of the pile of malpractice cases against him. Everyone laughed when he said he came up with a miracle cure for all that ails you. See who's laughing now! The Medic will heal allies who are fighting you. His miracle cure seems to have a strange effect on zombies that can potentially turn them back to humans. Failing to take out The Medic will only prolong your fight for survival.

The Different Memorable Zombie And Human Characters In Brrrainz

When we think of zombie games, we consider zombies as our enemies, someone we must kill to survive the zombiepocalypse. In Brrrainz, we’ve swapped the equation variables. You start out as a lone zombie survivor in the woods of 60s-70s Middle America looking for other undead friends who hopefully will join your horde because there’s imminent and unpredictable danger out there along your journey—humans.

Humans who range from simple farmers to hippies to businessmen to hardened soldiers can react to your horde’s coming in different ways. Some run away, others run right at you. Some are shrewd once they realize there’s an army of the undead approaching them; they will do their utmost to defend themselves and their fortifications.

There are also bosses—inspired by iconic zombie hunters and heroes from our pop culture cinema—with special and unique skillset and way of killing their arch enemies. There’s the Lumberjack who ragingly throws logs at your horde from afar. When you’re close to him, he effortlessly hacks you with his axe. The Sherriff is well respected amongst his small town community. He is an expert at shooting from his powerful magnums and compelling when it comes to rallying support from the townsfolk to fight the horde with him. Meanwhile the Exterminator is a secret government project. He is ruthless and loves to play with fire setting the horde ablaze with his massive back-mounted flamethrower. And that’s just a few of the many.

It’s important for you, as a player, to think strategically when it comes to dealing with and defeating these vicious foes. Should you go on a rampage hoping to stampede them with your numbers? Or should you give tactical commands to each individual zombie to outsmart your target? There is no all-size-fits-all!

Keep in mind that when you start off, your zombies are weak and need to be fed with human brrrainz as much as possible so they don’t lag behind your horde and eventually die. You can also collect DNA Points which allow your horde to upgrade their abilities such as speed, damage, health, and maximum number of zombies you can carry. The human enemies you kill and feed on can potentially turn in the afterlife and join your undead army, which is always a good thing—the more, the merrier!

You can’t do it alone and sometimes regular zombies aren’t strong enough. That’s why Freaks exist. They are zombies who in previous life were so powerful they carried their abilities to the afterlife. They’re very rare, however, and should be used sparingly. Our few favorites include: the Glutton, the Barbarian, and the Jester. The Glutton used to be a fry cook and would often stuff his face with food while his boss wasn’t looking. In the afterlife, his belly is full of fried food which he can vomit in a large line in front of him that slows your enemies and increases zombie movement speed. The Barbarian was once a tough and trained body builder. As a zombie, his bulky size helps him shield the smaller zombies from harm. When he’s angry, he smashes the ground wounding any enemies in his path. And lastly, the Jester is a former circus clown who got fired because his creepy costume and disturbing smile made all the children cry. His special ability is to charge towards his enemies, expand, and explode dealing massive amount of damage around him. Freaks have their own upgrade path as well.

In Brrrainz, You Play As A Zombie Horde

yeticulture Blog

screen 1

When we set out to make a zombie game, we wanted it to be different. There's many zombie games where you play from the human survivor's perspective but never the zombie. We decided to turn the tables around and let the zombies be the protagonists, the survivors trying to subsist and thrive--despite turning undead--in a world of the living.

gif1

In Brrrainz, you start out as a lone zombie survivor looking for his wife. He hopes that she is as brrrain-frenzied as him. He's delighted when he finds her and learns that she too turned undead. Together they become a unit searching for other brrrainz to munch on and invite to join their horde. As they say, "United we stand, divided we fall!" Your zombies must be well fed to be strong and feisty; otherwise, they become weak and eventually die (yes, in Brrrainz, even the undead die in the end). gif2

Likewise, we wanted Brrrainz to appeal to a larger audience in addition to hardcore survival horror and zombie fans by filling the game with quirky cultural icons and characters, horrible zombie puns inspired by our favorite movies and games in the genre, and light-toned and humorous visuals. The gameplay mechanics are different in that it's not only an action game, you have to strategize your moves as well. Should you tear through the game as one unit or give individual commands to your zombies depends on your horde, the enemies/bosses strength, and the complexity of the mission at hand.

Brrrainz press demo will be finalized in one month. The game will launch in Q3 2016. Stay tuned for more brrrainy news and teasers!
