AiC, stop by Hard-light.net.

It's the main support site for MCO. I'm sure Magic can get you fixed but he doesn't look here regularly, but you'll get a quick answer and the hard-light forum.

In the meantime, have you used the Force Resolution checkbox? Start MCO, go to options, check Force Resolution, and then select your preferred res. Restart MCO, it should work.

Really don't understand those comments. I neither complained nor said it was a bug, I said I had seen it be very slow on my machine and maybe that was what UserGnome is seeing himself.

In every case above I put in questions saying this may be a bug or I may not be understanding how it's supposed to work.

For example:

"Perhaps I'm misunderstanding and the expectation now is that you are supposed to use the create brain tool to configure one of the many templates. But the documentation I read said a long list of existing brains should be accessible."

The only documentation I could find said a long list of brain files would be available from the drop-down list in the brain tool, but when I tried it I saw only three. So I reported I see only three, so that is either a bug or I'm not understanding how it's supposed to work now as this documentation is old.

There is nothing I have done or said that justifies this type of response especially as you know I am spending considerable time trying to contribute to your version of MC2. I have been trying to learn a difficult editing system and as you know I spent my own time figuring out the vast majority of it - and what I left here is what I experienced in that process and in every case I said this isn't acting as expected so letting you know, either it's a bug or I don't understand how it's supposed to work.

Perhaps I should just take it to Omnitech or just drop it if I am irritating you this severely.

The first menu is REALLY slow to come up as it tries to play animations that for some reason chug along even on modern machines. Once you hear sound effects start, if you hit esc key the menu will pop up. At least that's all I can think of other than some major graphics issue with directX on your machine.

Question: the triggered_timed_moveto.abl template only seems to accept two waypoints, is that the case? At least I can only get them to go to two points.

Also, another one for the bugs/known issues list:

if you have a team 3 base command building linked to lookout towers, and you then manually change the towers to team 2, the editor saves it like that but it will crash MC2X. I didn't test other cases but I'd guess other team combinations would have the same result.

BTW I solved many of the editor/brain issues by moving the installation to a non-program files directory, and I'd strongly recommend anyone planning to use the editing tools to do the same.

Ok I fixed the path problem, it's below in the mc2s.ini file. Just change E: to your installation drive.

[Settings]
ABLdir=E:\MC2X\data\missions\warriors
lastFITdir=C:\Program Files (x86)\MC2X\data\missions\
lastABLdir=C:\Program Files (x86)\MC2X\data\missions\

However, no change in available brains - all that are listed is dredattack01, pbrain, and ones I created.

If I open my mission .fit file, all team 2 units default to mc2xattack. But it's not available from the drop down list, and when you select a unit it says that brain is no longer available in the specified location. And searching the installation, the only .abl files I find are in the brain tool folder, all of which I believe have to be configured via the brain tool before use.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding and the expectation now is that you are supposed to use the create brain tool to configure one of the many templates. But the documentation I read said a long list of existing brains should be accessible and assignable to units from that drop down list.

One question: the units for which I've created brains are not behaving as expected - I've set them to guard their current location and scan 300 yards, call for help and help others, with pursue and several other attack options enabled. But testing the scenario, they all just stand there dumb until shot. Then they wake up and start attacking. What am I missing?

I've confirmed the hardcoded path problem. If I save a new brain and then move it to e:\MC2X\data\missions\warriors (which I created manually) and hit refresh brain list in the brain tool, it then shows up.

Actually it looks like the abl_temps folder is just for the creation step, acting as sources. However, none of those nice brains are showing up in the available brain lists as of now and I don't think the temps files are supposed to be used as finished brains.

Couple bug notes using the editing tools:

Available Brains list kept pulling up only dredattack01 and pbrain as the only available brains, even though more were available in the installation. So I hit the directory menu option to see where it is looking, and it throws "Error setting path: E:\MC2X\data\missions\warriors". It appears the search path is hardcoded. Also, looking at the installation it should be going with the relative path of \MC2X_WarriorBrainTool\abl_temps.

I tried creating some brains and it said it was successful, but when I look in the installation folder there was nothing there. I'm thinking you have to run it as administrator if it's going to create files in the x86 directory, going to try that next. Also going to move the existing brain templates to the hardcoded path and see if the program finds them then.

With the editor, if you click and drag outside the viewport, it crashes with "no software rasterizer available". I'm win 7 Pro 64, 2x Nvidia GTX 970s.

Thanks, having fun playing with the tools, it's remarkable it's still being worked on actively.
