Brutal Doom

Mod review

Purists might disagree but lets face the facts, DooM aged in all aspects - and while it's still fun to play vanilla version it's rapidly becoming outdated. A fresh coat of paint is in order. And Brutal Doom is that paint.
Core gameplay, it's heart and blood is still the same. You still run and gun through packs of enemies while obliterating demons with double-barreled shotgun.
But, the God (irony) as they say, is in the details. And BD does those details that matter the most. Projectiles instead of hit-scan, regional hitboxes, re-tuned AI behavior, the way how weapons feel, how they behave, how monsters react to your actions, all the small and big changes work toward better game feel all while maintaining DooM look - and this is important - BD still looks and feels like vanilla DooM (for the most part), a feat few of the WADs have managed. Don't get me wrong, there are some great WADs out there some on par or even greater than BD but they achieve it through losing 'DooM' face.

And in lieu with original DooM, BD is also highly customizeable - there's something for everyone. From submods that strive to become BD2.0 like Project Brutality to humble weapon changer packs - Brutal DooM is the DooM's definitive gameplay WAD, golden standard for future mods and a testament for DooM's indomitable spirit. It proves that DooM may be old, ancient even, but with few adjustments it's ready to go back into the fray with the best of them and emerge victorious.
