I don't know what the differences between 1.0.1.5 and 1.0.1.6 are. The files for version 1.0.1.6 may work fine if 1.0.1.6 engine files don't introduce some incompatibility with any of the other files in the 1.0.1.5.
I guess in this case there's a greater chance that it works fine rather than it doesn't, but impossible to tell for sure without knowing what was changed.
Have you ever tried running 3DMark99 Max on your PC and does the desired resolution show there? I'm curious since it also uses DirectDraw's EnumDisplayModes method to get the resolution list. 3DMark99 will need the patch too: Drive.google.com
Still, the only limitation on Half-Life's side that I'm aware of is that it won't show more than 50 resolutions, so the first 50 reported get added to the list, the rest is ignored.
Another idea, Dege's dgVoodoo2 wrapper - Dege.freeweb.hu - see if the resolutions shows with it (and if its configuration utility displays it). The files DDraw.dll and D3DImm.dll from MS folder go to Half-Life folder.
It's probably doable, but finding time for it is the problem.
It might be possible (I'm assuming you're referring to the original demo with its own .exe), but I'm not sure when I'll find the time for these things again.
You can try installing Uplink as a mod to the existing installation. Since the old mod version seems to have disappeared from the internet, I've uploaded it here: Drive.google.com
Might be a good idea to put it on this site and other sites like this one sometime.
I don't see FOV having any effect on HUD, just resolution - higher aspect ratio, further away from the right side of the screen that part of the HUD appears.
It might be possible to alter it with a lot of time and patience. Someone already posted an issue on the GitHub project page where the widescreen code from this patch originates from, but it hasn't been tackled yet because it's complicated.
Use Mp3tag software to remove tags from MP3 files, then it should work. The MP3 decoder that comes with WON version doesn't understand MP3 files with ID3v2 tags. Files without any tags or just ID3v1 tags are playable.
Yes. Blue-Shift is a bit special since it's a separate installation using separate engine files, so has to be patched separately; patched versions of those files are provided.
Or you can convert it to plain Half-Life mod with the help of Blue-Shift: Unlocked. Patching Half-Life affects mods as well. Conversion will also give you the ability to play music off MP3 files without having to use software emulating CD audio, since the separate (older) engine doesn't have the MP3 support.
No, the only freezing bug I'm aware of is the one that happens if you manage to click Yes/No when being asked something after selecting certain menu options while the selected option isn't highlighted (happens if the mouse cursor is at the correct position at the time the question appears and you haven't moved the mouse since).
Something else is wrong on your end, impossible to tell remotely.
Look for The Suffering folder in C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\My Games, you have to move Saves folder in there, along with Unspeakable.cfg file.
Or if you prefer that the game reads saves from the old location, open Torque.ini file in your game folder and change PerUserConfigAndSaves setting from 1 to 0.
I don't know how to help in that case since I can't reproduce the crash on my end.
Well, I never experienced that problem myself.
Some settings are in registry. The easiest way to bring up configuration dialog is holding Shift when starting the game.
I haven't tried, but you could probably use DxWnd's virtual CD audio feature. You'll have to prepare the tracks according to its documentation then.
Do you have multiple monitors? It only enumerates resolutions of the primary monitor. Do you have compatibility mode set? If so, turn it off. There aren't any artificial restrictions in place regarding resolution. Works with 4K resolution on my end, although that makes the HUD ultra small.
Saves and config file are read from the appropriate folder in C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\My Games by default. The path to documents folder may be different, depending on the operating system or if the Documents folder was redirected to some other location.
The save files are compatible, only the default location where they're stored/read was changed. You can move Saves folder to C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\My Games\Drakan
At least that's the correct path on modern Windows versions.
Modify Torque.ini at C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\My Games\The Suffering. Everything is read from there unless PerUserConfigAndSaves is set to 0 in global Torque.ini (the one in the game folder).
Glad you figured out! My setup isn't anything special, so I didn't come up across such quirks. The game doesn't do anything special to retrieve resolutions, so the same resolutions should be seen in any game that ask the system which resolutions are supported.
The game is not multi-monitor aware, so you'll always see the resolutions of the primary display. Another limitation on the game side is that its resolution buffer is preallocated and can hold 50 resolutions at most. Could probably be lifted (do we even have configurations with such large number of display resolutions?).
Are you running the game in Windows 95/Windows 98 compatibility mode by any chance? This does limit number of reported resolutions, the last ones on the list are omitted.
Drakan.exe has been marked as high-DPI aware in recent versions, so manually disabling DPI scaling through compatibility settings is no longer needed.
Just changing the model does it.
The level designer has set Fire Crystal in the Troll Caves explicitly to give player 2 crystals. The default value is 5, which is how many you get if you use the cheat to obtain it. The only programmatic bug I see here is that equipping Rynn with it using right-click makes it so that when you put the crystal back in the inventory, it doesn't add to its count if you have one or more crystals in there the moment you put it back. If you equip it with a double-click, it behaves correctly.
There seems to be many areas where armor magically disappears when you save. The areas affected appear to be constant, you can reproduce the bug without ever saving the game (try to get an armor at the beginning of Ruined Village with a cheat). I doubt anyone has a clue WHY it happens, I certainly don't. Maybe it happens where terrain (layers) in the editor is laid out certain way. Who knows, this game is weird.
Glad it isn't anything more serious. It seems higher DPI settings sometimes cause issue with older games in general. So probably just disabling DPI scaling is enough, Windows 8 compatibility might be redundant.
Theoretically, you could, it's tricky in practice though. Is this one of those bugs that occur randomly after some time? I was able to save while standing near a sleeping wartok in Grimstone Mines and reload without making a sound.
I remember another occasional issue; sometimes, when the game reloads the last save after you press a key on death fadeout screen, a sound from menu when you hover mouse cursor over a crystal starts looping continuously. Reloading from the menu makes it stop.
Some people get this problem when they mess with graphics driver settings: Arokhslair.net
Since the update from 13th October 2016, most of the game levels are updated for increased rendering distance.
Setting up dgVoodoo 2 wrapper with Drakan is recommended so that the performance doesn't suffer as much.
10th Anniversary Mod is just about extra graphics effects and is kind of buggy. Definitely go with AiO Patch as it fixes a lot of bugs.
You can still use 10th Anniversary Mod on top of AiO Patch if you want, but if you choose to do so, you must apply AiO Patch after installing 10th Anniversary Mod because its installer messes up some critical game files.
Your brightness problem is related to the fact that you must've gotten a repack of the game, which uploader included older version of dgVoodoo 2 wrapper with configured brightness of 200%. But because of the bug in that version, brightness goes even above 200% until you ctrl+alt+del.
This was eventually fixed in the later versions. This patch also went through some iterations, some of which had quite critical bugs, but all seems good now. It's just how it is with software in general.
