Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak

Game review

Definitely brillant, with a total new approach. I've always wondered how Homeworld would look on ground battles and I'm not at all disappointed. The story, the visual fidelity and the Homeworld art direction are both impressive. The Homeworld saga is back. The Artificial Intelligence isn't that difficult, but well that's not really problematic for the title to be honest. Keep up the awesome work BBI!

Homeworld: Remastered

Game review

Homeworld is unlike anything that's out there, it's a game who defined the space strategy genre as we know it. I remember myself playing with my friends when Homeworld2 came out, the amount of incredible games we had, and still have. That was the best experience I had in strategy video games thus far.

As much as I love strategy games, I fell in love for this title the first time I played it. I will probably always consider it as my favourite one, and that's probably the most valuable reason I started developing mods on it, not just because I wanted to create something related to my favourite science fiction universes, but because this game brought us so many possibilities that I had to do it.

I seriously believe Gearbox gave Homeworld the respect it deserves, like other people think. This Remastered version is definitely what we can consider as "Remastered"... in opposition to other studios who tend to promote remastered games just because they changed the textures or the screen resolution. It's not a Remastered version, it's.. a Renovation. Now highlighting high definition score, great voices, 4K animated cutscenes and one of the latest versions of OpenGL, Homeworld Remastered makes the whole game really epic, with a well-told story.

My unique complain is that they decided to remove audios from other languages (such as French, Spanish, Italian...) while they still have them and that the original records are already in HD. They said they don't have them anymore, so they would have needed to remake all of them with foreign recording studios, and I don't believe Gearbox wanted to spend money on this, as they probably have no idea about the influence of Homeworld in these countries. Anyway I can't wait to get my hands on Gearbox's official Mod Tools to start working on this new version and bring to the new players and the Homeworld community stunning mods, as much as other mod developers.

VERDICT: IT'S A MASTERPIECE!

Pros of this Remastered Version:
✓ Brillant and stunning visuals.
✓ A better campaign (improved cutscenes).
✓ A great multiplayer mode.
✓ Far better Interface, and god we needed it.
✓ A great User Interface, which proves Homeworld rhymes with Modernity.
✓ Awesome multiplayer games in perspective.
✓ New tracks and remastered awe-inspiring score.
✓ Better movements and improved AI.
✓ Steam multiplayer platform, a good point to play with your friends.

Cons of this Remastered Version:
✖ Audio strictly limited to English. A shame because foreign languages had really great voice overs.
✖ Modding support not for now, at least for 3-4 months. Wait and see.
✖ Some missions could have been improved (strange movements).

There are cons, of course, but I'd give a 10/10 anyway, as this Remastered version is a way for Homeworld fans to support the future of the franchise. Thank you Gearbox, command line green. Homeworld Forever!
