C&C: ShockWave

Mod review

If you want a mod that just straight up allround overhauls and advances the game, without turning it into something different. This is the mod for you.
The amount of care and effort put into this mod over the years is hearthwarming and awe inspireering.

Though, why don´t i give it a 10 out of 10 ? Because of 1 gamebreaking and 1 dealbreaking issiue.

First, the performance is terrible. I have played many matches with this mod and the moment when you go beyond 5 AI players you will encounter serious slowdowns beyond the 5 minute mark, which often end with a crash to desktop.
I´m guesing that the mod forces the game to go beyond its engine limitations, as playing the same maps with the same settings in vanilla Zero Hour does neither crash the game, nor slow it down.

Second is the heavy focuse on competitive multiplayer. I get it, the C&C Community is old and therefor mostly filled with veterans who can play these game on hardest difficulty will turning there brain on Autopilot. What lead them to seeked out and became part of insider, multiplayer only communites.
Though that is no excuse for leaving potential new players, casual "just for fun, ***** and giggles" enjoyers and singeplayer enthusiasts, behind.
Currently all 3 of the singelpayer campaings are disabled, the AI is overtuned, leaving easy to be practicly a brainless dummy, will hard will groundpound you into never trying a skirmish again.
Combined with the performance issiue and the natural lack of compatability with custom missions and all you really have left is the generals challenge, who also is more something for competitive players.

TL;DR: The mod is awesome, but the AI performance issiues and the lack of singeplayer content, makes it only a good pick for competitive and/or veteran multiplayer players.
