Currently, they are a resource. But considiering how cheap Nod infantry is, it might be weird if you can kill your own soldiers and harvest them to gain money.

It would interrupt the economy a lot because harvesters would harvest one, then return to the refinery, then go back out and harvest another one etc. The time taken to harvest the insignificant amount vs going back with full loads to the refinery would unfairly penalise a player.
If you find\have found a way to prevent a harvester from treating each individual spawn has its own field and instead continuing to harvest until it is full, then of course that is a different matter.
In the end I even got rid of the spawns from destroyed harvesters because of the issues that arose.
