Company of Heroes: Eastern Front

Mod review

This mod is essentially at the level of what I would expect from the creators of Company of Heroes. The voice acting is spot on, and I'm proud to say that, as a Russian, there are no grammatical mistakes that I could detect in the dialogue of the soldiers. The gameplay is also spot on - I have not tried the Ostheer troops but the Soviet side has a great amount of depth as well as a wide area of troops to choose from. The new maps are also enjoyable - It's extremely entertaining and satisfying defending the Moscovian outskirts from the German invaders as well as liberating the Sevastopol port. Sound effects are also spot on.

There is only one negative that I can say and that is the fact that it took me a while to figure out how to launch the mod. I kept on getting an error telling me to launch it from Steam even after multiple reinstalls. Luckily, I came upon a way to launch it and it works flawlessly.

One thing I was especially glad to see is how stable the mod is now - I remember around a year ago when I gave it it's first try: It would crash not often enough to make me throw the mod out completely but often enough that it would get frustrating. Now I have not experienced a single crash, so good on the creators for making the mod more stable.

Overall, I love mod - from the satisfying onslaught of my T-34's onto the enemy base after a long and arduous battle for Kursk to the hilarity of the leader of the engineers going "Oh, you hurt your hand? Man up!"

Lambda Wars

Mod review

As a Half Life 2 fan since it came out, I always wanted to get a taste of playing on the side of the combine, and playing in the Half Life 2 universe as an RTS.

And I must say... Half Life: Wars delivered.

The Pro's were that it was built on the source engine, so everything is basically the same as the original game. Blood, sound, ragdolls, etc. You were able to switch sides between rebels and the Combine, along with being able to construct every character you meet in-game (along with a few other surprises). The soundtrack was pretty bomb, and it plain feels wonderful being able to take down a rebel base in the name of the Universal Union.

The only con I found that almost put me off the game was that there is no AI difficulty option. As I played, the AI was relatively easy, with a few surprise rushes on my poor Metro Police that ended with me losing several control points.

This mod might seem reminiscent of Company of Heroes to some (like me), but it brought a sense of comfort knowing exactly what I need to do.

TL;DR This is an amazing mod and I recommend people try it.
