I've been going around as a writer, but started getting drawn into Concept Art and 3D modeling. I'm currently finishing my studies as a 3D artist and will then be let loose on the world. Beware!

P.S.: This map is huge. It's hard to say from this picture, but if I were to walk down there and across the entire beach, I'd be travelling for 10 minutes.

sculpted in Mudbox. the size of the map is determined at importing the heightmap into CrySDK. I made it a little bigger than I wanted :)

ok, I understand heightmaps, but they textures themselve have to be pretty big unless you are painting it in the engine... right?

yeah, there is a distance texture for the terrain, which is the same size as the heightmap - in my case 2048x2048 Pixel. You can make texturemaps up to 16k for Cryengine.

Description

I finally finished the detail textures for the map. I only made one custom texture for the beach, the rest comes with the SDK. I need to figure out a few things, before I can create a river and some roads. But so far it's a blast working with CE3. It does crash sometimes, but for the most part it works. It's just a lot of work and requires a vast library of textures and a good deal of experience. A year ago I guess I'd have struggled with frustration, but all my training finally pays out.
