I've been going around as a writer, but started getting drawn into Concept Art and 3D modeling. I'm currently finishing my studies as a 3D artist and will then be let loose on the world. Beware!

I notice you have mirrored sides but didn't overlap the UV's
Is this because you want the asset to be real-time lit via the engine?
I've read somewhere that you "can" overlap duplicate UV's with assets that have a static light sources.

I tried the first time and it worked on 90% of the sword, except the wooden clamp thing. I had uvs, which I had to modify again for the half-sword. Somehow these uvs got corrupted, so I unfolded the complete sword to get to painting. Now it has 2 slightly different sides.

Interesting... are you going to try again?
Apparently it speeds up production, but of course its still got to look good on your model.
I like 2 different sides... keeps it looking natural

Description

I might have some work to do on better shading, but I'm quite happy with the result at first glance. The model has 428 triangles. I guess I could save some, if I simply paint on the diamond or put it on a simpler sphere.

The one with the grey background is the render from XSI - without shadows.
