They are indeed the ammo cylinders and as for the blockiness, that is just the way Warhammer in its essence is designed, big and bulkish and a little on the rectangular side. We try to stay as true to the original as possible while adding as much detail as possible :).

Would love to, but unfortunately we have everything but a texture artists and until some one volunteers that meets the teams standards we will continue to work with what staff we have.

Orks are something that has been a hot topic of debate over the last couple of weeks due to our vision of the gritty FPS and GW's very cartoony design of the Ork's conflict with that. So we have been working on a more 'realistic' image, which as you can see on the shoota removes that cartoony essence of the originals while still maintining the look of Ork weaponry.

And as for the weapon models looking simple that's intended, there is alot to be gained from simplicity at our current stages and we can promise it will be the hottest Shoota you have ever laid eyes on by the time it comes to release ;).

For the Bommer itself we wanted to try something different a little different due to the fact the Bommer looks more or less exactly the same as the Fighta with slightly different tail positions and a little bigger. So we thought we would take a little creative liberty with this model ;).

The mod is based off a tabletop game called Warhammer 40,000 SinKing all the mods content is modelled after the original, we didn't make it, we are just remaking it ;)

Mr. Grim it is possible to begin work on a mod before the game is released, models, skins and other such data can be created before hand. It is the coding and the actual building of the game that cannot take place until its released, what it does mean is that when the game is released we have cut a fairly good portion of the development time down beforehand.
